ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC" part 3

What would it cost to replace him though? £75m transfer fee plus £150k per week on a 5 year contract for someone probably not as good?

It's a weird one this and I've said it before, people trying to dress it up as a bad thing for them that they've kept their best player.

75m to replace him?

Joking aren't ya, they don't spend a bean and it's all done on a shoestring budget!!!

Being entirely honest, Salah is a good player, so losing him would have been a huge loss for Liverpool; they know that, as does pretty much everyone else.

Losing him on a free next summer would be a terrible piece of business as he'd be very difficult to replace when they got no income from a sale.

It'd be even worse if he didn't give 100% for the year and then left, so they were stuck in a situation of selling him now with Mane, seeing him go next year or...

... they decide to break their wage structure. Salah and Mane have had the club by the balls and they've caved in. Some will rejoice and I actually get that.

However, I think most fans will see it as retaining a top player but at the cost of potential long-term financial consequences. A little bit of a catch-22 situation.
All players have their peak, especially forwards in their early 30s. It just takes a couple of % slowing down in reaction times at this level and they're gone.

He'll be as good as ever next season (if he doesn't pick up an injury) but thereafter they'll have to replace him. IMO they needed to bite the bullet and rebuild this summer because next season is not hapening for them as serious challengers to City.

Another thought: if FSG have scrapped their own wage structure for this and he then gets injured and doesn't really come back after it, that is a heavy price to pay. This reperesnts a gamble by Liverpool. IMO they swerved a tough descision and haven't been bold enough.

Salah keeps him self tip top like ronaldo etc

He will be very good at least for the rest of his lfc days lets be honest

Terrible day all round

So now Salah is on the same wedge as Haaland?

Hahahahahahahaha the poetic justice of them attempting to take the moral high ground over wages and crying poverty!

Let the mental gymnastics begin.

Highest paid player in the PL, 4th highest in the world behind the PSG front three.

They’ve got no money though apparently and tried to furlough their staff during covid

I wonder if it fits with Edwarda going, and Klopp getting more control?

I expect Van Dilk and a few others will have a clause in their contract that will equal the highest paid. Thanks to Mane leaving their wage structure is screwed by their dependence on one player.

I think they got this just about right. 4 or 5 years and this could have been an issue for them. Possible he falls off a cliff like Alexai Sanchez but I think he will be at peak form for at least 2 of those 3 years
