ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC" part 3

I very briefly had a red inhaler and they took me off it pretty quckly because you're not really supposed to have it for an extended period of time

That was when my asthma was at it's absolute worst as well

I'm now on a pink inhaler (Oh Matron!) and have a blue one as and when I need it

If you're regularly using a red inhaler then your asthma is pretty darn bad and mildly steep hills should be taking you out, let alone running around for 90 minutes at the speed you need for Egg Em Pressing

I'm sure in 30 years time it will all come out in a tell all book or something from an embittered ex-player, and the authorities will just shrug and go "oh well" and that will be that. No Titles stripped, no further action, and the media will just ignore it

The whole same thing was raised a few years ago with the Sky Pro cycling team. Prinipaly about Chris Froome who won the tour de France 4 times.
Several in the squad had medical certificates allowing them to puff away, always claiming it was not performance enhancing.
They know what they're doing is right on the edge of legality. The media know all about it too. If it were Man City doing it this would be headline news all day and every day until they were forced into a statement about it and promising to open themselves up to scrutiny.

But it's their club doing it, so the media leave them alone to dope their players up. I think in years to come when the long term ramifications for these players health-wise come to light this era for Liverpool will go down in infamy...Klopp and his coaches and medical staff will be seen as the rightful heirs to the East German doping regimes.....and another dark and sinister chapter in their history will be written.

Spot on. I didn't even read your post before posting mine below it.

I think it's nailed on a Liverpool player in a few years will sue that club and it'll all come out.

How do we know that the players do or don't have asthma? Their medical records are surely private?

Ben Davies may have asthma??

That is why it is conjecture, some may be more sure than others but until undeniable evidence comes out we are all assuming and second guessing the very few pieces that we know about.

My view is that there does seems to be some base for the rumours but how far it goes, in terms of legality I have absolutely no clue.

If the volume of Liverpool players who have asthma is right then that is surely grounds for an investigation, at the very least, especially with the strength (going by what has been said on here) of medication in the picture. Although, it is just a picture, is it for him? Is it for a non playing staff member and he is passing it to them?

Only time will tell what is going on, if there is anything going on.

More fool any person taking unnecessary drugs to enhance performance in the knowledge you at risk of permanent damage and are shortening your life.
I was in hospital last week and queried and checked every tablet offered and they were to make me well!

It's fair to say we can piece the gathering circumstantial evidence together though.

Yesterday's picture of a fitness coach wandering about with asthmatic drugs like it was a regular part of their recovery from workouts is telling.

The cycle down season in 2020/21 was classic recovery period for PED users.

Klopp's own defence of Lance Armstrong spoke a lot too.

As I said there is definitely a base to the rumours. At the moment all it is, is circumstantial, but the evidence does seem to be growing.

Didn't know about the defence of Armstrong, as you said it adds to that growing evidence, somebody just needs to find the 'smoking gun' now.

I guess we have the hearsay of the percentage of diagnosed asthma cases to start off with, the very strange answer to the press conference question put to Salah & Henderson and the picture.

Ok.

Before Klopp and his team of medics arrived at Liverpool they were already under testing and preparing for it as this indicates:

"Professor John Dickinson: The rumour I saw was 63%, as you say. There is no official data out there on this. A club is not going to pin the number of players that are using various medications on a board somewhere. I think that’s what this is - a rumour. Where it came from, who knows?

Back in 2010/11 I did screen the club’s first-team squad and we published a paper on it. That was back in the days when Dr Peter Brukner was Head of Sports Medicine and Science at Liverpool and Zafar Iqbal was first-team doctor.

About 25% of the players had exercise-induced asthma. A lot of clubs wouldn’t have let us publish that data, but they saw it as, ‘We’re doing best practice here and we want to tell everyone about it."

Under Klopp we can guess this the intervention went much further...the culture was already established and I'd guess he took it to another level.

The undercurrent to the Buvac departure (as I posted on here) was that he disagreed with Klopp over when the optimum moment to have a cycle down season was and Klopp backed his medics over him.

He does. It's really important that he uses that turboinhaler. Everyone are being absolutely brutish by accusing him of being part of a systematic doping programme at lfc.

I think it's wonderful that a team like Liverpool are taking a lead on breaking down the barriers on having asthmatics in their team and are obviously positively discriminating on this.

Truly they epitomise the spirit of YMCA.
