ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC" part 3

Reality is the city of Liverpool is in the majority, anti establishment. What that shower of wet wipes have done is move it from a political stance to an, as usual, marketing stance.
I don't boo the anthem, I don't sing it. Not my king etc.
But there is a hugely historical set of reasons for this city being anti establishment, like Churchill sending watships up the Mersey, Thatcher and Ingham etc etc.
The establishment have always took on this city because it stood up for itself, and more importantly, for others.
Lots of towns and cities have reasons to be anti establishment, Liverpool isn't anything special in that regard.

Yeah I clocked that as well, mentioned The Farm all being massive Liverpool fans - bet Keith Mullin wasn’t too happy about that
My memory of it was one of them is a Blue and he persuaded the others to do it, but I don't know much about them so I couldn't be sure. I bought the CD though and blasted it in work the day before the final after being subjected to a week of Man U fans swanning about the place expecting an easy win.

The programme opened with the Liver Birds theme tune and a clip of the RS badge ahead of the Everton badge - why do they always do it in that order ? They also pointed out Elvis Costello being a huge RS, and the clip of the La's lingered on an RS flag in the crowd. Just a minor niggle but seems to confirm that the BBC is infested with them.

County Borough 1889-1973[edit]

When elected county councils were established in 1889, Liverpool was made a county borough (whilst retaining its city status), making it administratively independent from Lancashire County Council, although the city remained part of Lancashire for ceremonial purposes.[5] Political control of the city council whilst it was a county borough was held by the following parties:

Party in controlYears
Conservative1889–1892
Liberal1892–1895
Conservative1895–1955
No overall control1955–1956
Labour1956–1962
Conservative1962–1963
Labour1963–1967
Conservative1967–1971
No overall control1971–1972
Labour1972–1974

The Tories last controlled Liverpool in 1971, since we moved over to a Metropolitan Borough in 1973, we have had ongoing periods of NOC, Labour and the Liberal Democrats ( 1998-2010) Labour in control from 2010 until the present. The Labour Party was only established in 1900, so non Tory votes before then probably went to the Liberals. This being said, Labour did not gain overall control here until 1956.

It is a myth that Liverpool has always been a Labour stronghold.

And Granada too. Always irked me that the opening credits for Granada Reports shows a mass of r/s flags but no one elses
