ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC" part 3

I reckon most nations national anthems are jingoistic nonsense if examined.
At least the French and Italian have nailed a belting rousing tune to get the blood pumping before a big game
La Marseilles has brilliant lyrics: ‘let impure blood water our furrows’ and soldiers are coming, ‘to cut the throats of your sons, your women!’ Totally commendable.

Reality is the city of Liverpool is in the majority, anti establishment. What that shower of wet wipes have done is move it from a political stance to an, as usual, marketing stance.
I don't boo the anthem, I don't sing it. Not my king etc.
But there is a hugely historical set of reasons for this city being anti establishment, like Churchill sending watships up the Mersey, Thatcher and Ingham etc etc.
The establishment have always took on this city because it stood up for itself, and more importantly, for others.
Might well be the case but I don't in any way affiliate that club with being representative of the coty of .Liverpool.

So while I wholly agree with you, this thread is about those gobshites, and not the City.

Problem is, everyone associates them With city of liverpool. They have the cities name. They are half the city. Whether we like it or not.

Vast majority of comments on social media about them booing the national anthem is anti scouse and anti-liverpool as a city.

Like how their behaviour during away games etc. will to some extent tarnish the image of the likes of ourselves, Tranmere, Marine and whatnot.

That's why I continue to labour the point, I may well be fighting a lone battle but I'll keep doing so.

Those bastards do not represent this city.

Yeah they have great anthems, they are 1 0 up before the game even starts
Land of hope and glory. Is a tune I could get behind… apart from the god and empire bit.

We don't, others do.
As I said above, I know that others do, which is why I continue to 'try' and put people straight (not you obviously).

I'm surprised by the amount of blues here who say 'yeah, stand them with them on this booing of the monarchy' - they're not booing because they're against the monarchy, they're doing it to grab a headline, make themselves the story.

When some of their fans kicked up a stink against the breakaway euro super league (many of them argued for it by the way) they didn't do so for the good of the Premier League collective. They only kicked off because they knew they would be just there to make up the numbers and would lose an awful lot of ground in any newly established hierarchy. They do things out of self interest. Their followers by into it.

They don't represent anyone but themselves and don't let anyone convince you otherwise.

You do realise that Liverpool was once a Tory city. You may not realise that some still vote Tory. None of this has anything to do with the Monarchy and the RS disgracing, once again, our city…..
Out of interest, when was the last time the city was controlled by the Tories - I have lived outside the city for the best part of 40 years and when I still lived there it was run by the Liberals, before becoming a labour stronghold in opposition to Thatcher and her vile minions.

I find myself unconvinced by the notion that the RS have somehow shamed the city, only the likes of Daily Mail readers are likely to hold that view. I used to be instinctively anti-monarchy, not out of hatred for the Royals, but because it was an anachronistic institution. However, the more I see of the modern Tory Party I am grateful that we don't have an elected Head of State as I think their drive to the hard right would be accelerated.

On an unrelated point, did anyone watch the "Sounds of Liverpool" programme on BBC2 last night? It was deffo put together by an RS sympathiser. Apologies if this has already been raised, I have so many people on ignore these days it is hard to keep up.

Yeah I clocked that as well, mentioned The Farm all being massive Liverpool fans - bet Keith Mullin wasn’t too happy about that
