ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC" part 3

If they missed out this year they were screwed for years. Ageing team and screwed finances to replace them. Klopp will have a bit of money to spend now and the CL money eases the hit of the pandemic a bit.
Liverpool needed the Euro super league - that's why Henry was THE driving force behind it.

There's no way they'll be spending what's required to get on top of their rebuilding; the CL cash is what - €15M to reach the Group Stage and market pool cash = €30M?

That figure seems exaggeratedly low, has to be closer to 50 mil sterling.

I wont challenge that. But I would like detail on it, though.

Guaranteed cash due to a Group Stage place + a bigger slice of the pie through past record in Europe gets you so much.
According to wikipedia:

  • Base fee for group stage: €15,250,000
  • Group match victory: €2,700,000
  • Group match draw: €900,000
  • Round of 16: €9,500,000
  • Quarter-finals: €10,500,000
  • Semi-finals: €12,000,000
  • Runner-ups: €15,000,000
  • Champions: €19,000,000
Thats the prize money based on performance. Dont know anything about Tv money though.

Ok, that's another €4M on top of basic group stage cash. TV cash is pooled with 'big hitters' getting a bigger share. Sponsorship deals may be triggered in relation to CL qualification too.

Let's say it was the €50M total you believed it to be: that wont make a dent in the type of spending Liverpool need to make.

The season was over. Nothing to play for with the opposition they faced. They were either relegated or safe.

Unfortunately the English teams will be favourites for the CL next season. Madrid and Barca are a shambles. Bayern are in decline and Nagelsmann is a poor hire. Inter are the only Italian side worth a passing glance. PSG will be the only continental threat to deal with. Liverpool will be up there with City and Chelsea as favourites.
