Long ball side isn't miles from the truth, although the term has negative connotations that I don't think fit Liverpool. They're certainly no Stoke, but they're not Barca either.
Gerrard lashes the ball at those front two all game and they do the rest. I've watched a lot of their games this year. Occasionally (as indicated clearly by the stats) Coutinho chips in with an assist. Sterling is also a threat for them. To be fair, it's not much different to how we played last year in sending the ball up to Fellaini, who would control a long ball and lay it off to the attackers. In Liverpool's case though, rather than a large, strong target man, they have two quick strikers with good touches who can run in behind or drop deep and who, crucially, slot for fun.
It's not beautiful, but it's not really ugly either.
I've said on here before, there's not exactly a complicated formula to their game, but it is working. And obviously it will work as long as you have arguably the third/fourth best player in the world and the second top scorer in the league up front there. So you can't blame Rodgers for playing that way at all.
To suggest it's tactical nous that has anything to do with their form this year is laughable though tbf.
