Our best season (before this one) in the premier league era was 07-08 IMO, semi final of the league cup, a decent run in the UEFA cup and a 5th place finish. Its not a given the competition ruins your season.

Unless we play some kind of european football we'll always be faced with very difficult CL qualifier.

Martinez isnt afraid to play the kids, they'll get a good run out in the Europa.

How about if our title-winning team of the 80's hadn't been barred from European competition for 5 years when they were in their prime because of some of the thugs who support your lot? What would the financial clout and worldwide reputation of our club have been then... ?

Tell you what, I've detested your scummy club since Heysel so please don't come on an EVERTON forum and dare to lecture us about excuses.

thought we already had squad limits raleigh...hence some teams loaning out and that...the difference to the top teams is the ...quality..of those squads not the quantity...get it right..

I'd argue Proper Squad Limits.

As in - loans count against the limit. Youth squad limits as well. Chelsea have 30 players on loan. That allows for a false economy - only the richest clubs can afford any superior talent. Otherwise it must be found very young and kept.

You say quality - I say you're incorrect. If City have Aguero out for a few months, Negredo starts. If we have Lukaku out for a few months...well...we aren't starting with a striker.

If all the breaks work out, then starting XI is all that matters. But it's a squad game, especially once Europe is involved. Not sure if you would be challenging for the title if Suarez had been out as much as Aguero, for example.

so arsenal chelsea utd and city for the last few seasons are playing at a disadvantage to the rest every season then,,,funny how they seem to win the league as well though ..isnt it..

You mean 30 players on loan wealthy Chelsea? City with oil money? And Utd with Sir Alex? And what have Arsenal won recently?

Could it be that those clubs have the money/talent to compete in both as compared to the rest of the league?

More games is a greater strain on the squad. By definition it is an extra strain. Extra strain by definition means it's a disadvantage. Some clubs have the money (Chelsea/City) or the sheer force of personality (Utd with Ferguson) to cope with such disadvantages.

Whether Liverpool and Everton do remains to be seen.

Our attendances are based on fans getting into the ground with their own tickets - not photocopies and ones snatched from the hands of children mate.

Dont come onto an Everton forum giving it all that mate, you've had a good run this year granted... Suarez in the form of his life and the dozens of penalties have made sure you are favourites for the league this season but I guarantee it's flash in the pan, next season you'll revert back to type and struggle once the Rat leaves you for Los Blancos.
