ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC"

My 1st person view of the outside will look somewhat like this should the results go their way on Sunday and they pick up that damned league title.

Not withstanding some great performances - individually and as a team - however that has happened: whether by good tactics, indifferent performances by key opponents in several matches, particularly against Liverpool but you have to say they have used up 10 years worth of good fortune to get this one on the board.

To wit: City losing the plot on a simple through ball (leaving the entire goal wide open), losing Toure early, Kompany, carrying an injury presents the title on a plate to Coutinho with a dreadful clearance - this after Silva misses a near open goal. Not to mention dropping 2 points at home to Sunderland.

Chelsea - chuck away any advantage by losing at Villa, Palace and home to Sunderland - now turning up with a reserve side to rubber stamp the title.

Arsenal - suffering dreadful injuries, completely blow their title chances, turn up and lie down in a moribund 5-1 defeat (although to be fair Arsenal did this at Chelsea, Everton, City and even at Man U)

United - utter gash in both games. Barely threatened to even score.

Everton turning up with a barely fit back 4 to pretty much give up the 3 points.

And, when all that wasn't happening the lesser lights were pretty much rolling over and handing the points on a plate: Stoke (2 points at Anfield, last minute penalty miss - kick starting their season), Stoke (away) - with the help of the referee a dreadful penalty, Villa (home) gift of a penalty (thanks in part to a dubious refereeing call). Fulham away - dreadful gift of a penalty and another two points handed to them.

Spurs - well, where do we start - granted Liverpool played well but, hang on - 0-5 at home and utter gash and 93 seconds before they practically pass the ball into their own net to gift another 3 points in a pathetic effort.

It's fine to credit them with some excellent performances, yes they've played well and deserve a huge amount of credit, but their opponents have, time after time, shown no stomach for the fight - laid down inside 10 minutes and barely looked like being arsed to fight back.

That is how leagues are won, United have had teams beat the last twenty years before a ball has been kicked.

All teams need luck, it evens itself out in the end, every reason you throw as to why Liverpool are in the postion they are in can be thrown at every team including Everton to explain why they are in the position there in.

Just on late winners alone Everton must have far more, is that because teams are rolling over for Everton and cant be ar**d or is it because Everton play till the last minute?

Explain this graph then?

If finishing outside Europe is such a big advantage then why in PL history has a club finishing outside of European places the previous season never won the title?

The fact is that clubs in the CL get a lot more money to spend and can attract better players to improve their squad depth. That's why clubs want to be in the CL in the first place and that's why clubs in the CL actually have a better chance of winning trophies.

hahaha, I can't believe some kopite has put that together to attempt to argue against the fact that not playing in Europe is a massive advantage in the race for the title.

What you've omitted love, is the fact that you've been spending at the rate of a CL side for the entire period you've been out of the competition. Hence the reason you've racked up £90m of losses in the last 2 years.

So you've in essence enjoyed CL level spending without the revenue or the actual chore of having to play an additional 12-14 games potentially.

Only a kopite could ever attempt to argue that playing less games in a season wasn't a benefit ffs.

Opponents don't roll over late in the game - they get tired, they just lose. Most matches are settled in the final 20 minutes, the overwhelming majority of games are still close with 15 minutes to go (level, one goal difference).

Except the RS put everything into the first 30 minutes. Nobody has been able to hold them.
Has any team really had a go at them in the last 20 minutes when it has been level?

I'm glad you answered it so I didn't have to dirty my hands answering it.

Most clubs who don't play in europe aren't good enough to be in the title race, obviously.

The fact that Liverpool have come from out of europe altogether into probably winning the title is pretty impressive. But they were massively underperforming to be in 7th, in the first place. This isn't a cheap, poorly paid team making a run at it. This was a team that cost Cl money and is on Cl wages.

It's like Chelsea finishing 6th and winning the CL. The 6th is the false position for their money not the Cl trophy being won by an underdog.

Still if they do it it, it's a hell of a comeback considering how far behind the top teams they looked just last year. 7th to 1st doesn't happen much these days, but they hit a perfect storm of them finally getting their act together in the same year all the competiton collapse.

Still got my fingers crossed they'll throw it away, mind.

Basically it boils down to saying fair play, Rodgers made the right choice.
Lowering the clubs standing and abandoning the clubs principles in exchange for the league.

Because, even whilst Suarez held them to ransom, belittled them, and failed to appologize despite Rodgers telling the world he would, letting everyone know he wanted out of the club to anywhere, including Arsenal, and throwing tantrums, diving, biting, racisim etc and forcing Rodgers and the club into utterly capitulating to him...

Rodgers took it and manged to ignore all of it, and utterly swallowed his pride, whilst taking up the jacksie... along with their fans.. who basically seem to have no pride anyway as long as the player scores a goal, begged him to stay and gave him a pay rise.

Embarassing, belittling and saddening...

But in bending over that far for Suarez, they kept hold of a player who almost single handedly won them the league.

Its a hell of a cost, but its one I am sure they would happily make again, and again and again, and probably a few times more, for some average players as well.

Whatever it takes eh?

Pretty sure most of them refuse to believe Suarez even wanted out lol

All that while still being everyone's favourite second team.
