I live in California and last night a friend (who is not interested in football but knows I love it) phoned me up to talk about
Saurez with comments such as "he bit someone - BIT someone, why the hell does he do that?" and "you mean it is not the first time he has done it??! Three times FFS that is ridiculous, what type of sport is this?"

Similar to when Tyson bit Holyfield.

Yes...was having breakfast at the hotel restaurant this morning and a group of men and women, all professional types were talking about it. They knew nothing about footy, you could tell, but they were chatting about it.

for all those kopites saying they'd rather be bitten than elbowed, in a sport as brutal as boxing, tyson was fined 2 million, did community service and was banned for a year for biting, this is suarez's third offence for the same crime

Fantastic point. I couldn't believe it when it happened...but then I kinda could believe it after having a think on it. He was utterly mental at that point.

All of which can make writing about Suárez slightly awkward when we already know the response, the denial, the finger-pointing and the automatic counter-allegation that this is some kind of payback time from a vengeful English press, who would never dream of treating one of their own this way. Someone, perhaps, should tell John Terry that after the avalanche of criticism for his abuse of Anton Ferdinand, coming directly after Suárez’s own racial-abuse case.

Or just imagine if Wayne Rooney had sunk his teeth into opponents on three different occasions. But the default setting will not budge. Suárez’s apologists follow like ants. They have their lines prepared and it is clever, in a warped kind of way. Every article from an English newspaper or website feeds the delusion.

If he'd committed those three offences on a street in California, he could given a life sentence. Puts it into perspective.....

The English press have been hounding Blatter and FIFA. I can see exactly what Suarez's team are trying to do here.

They know he's gonna get punished, the whole world knows he is guilty, most of all Chewy Suarez. Damage limitation is the name of the game now, and they're taking an angle in the hope of some empathy from FIFA.
