ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC"

No player available to Liverpool football club will be able to replace 30 goals and 20 assists. Therefore they either have to play a different way or sign two players in his stead. Who do you drop from the team then to accomodate this extra player?

Thats the problem with Rodgers' team last season, it was entirely based around individuals. Gerrard to launch long passes, Sturridge and Sterling to stretch, Henderson to chase anything that moved down to allow Gerrard just to pass. All of the above purely drsigned to let Suarez do whatever he wanted. Once one cog falls out though (Hendersons red for example), the whole thing stops working properly.

If kopites think Origi or Sanchez or whoever are going to be belting in 30 yarders against Norwich every time they play then they are in for a shock.

They might get someone good but unless its some unknown Messi mk II then he wont be as good. Happy for Rodgers to dilute the quality though and spend it on dross to beef up their squad as they become the first club ever to balance European football with fomestic demands (or so they would have you think the amount they go on about it).

RVP came the next season didnt he? But Rooney scored a boatload post Ronaldo I recall.

Immediately after selling Ronaldo and the summer after United spent very little signing nobody significant.

But the 4 summer's after that including this summer they've spent over 50 million in each one

We actually ended up being a much better team once Rooney left so you can't call that train of thought complete nonsense.

If Suarez goes and they replace him with 3 incredibly good players who combined score more and assist more than Suarez did, then they're stronger for it.

You can't compare what Rooney did for us to what the Rat has done for them over this past few years.

They have literally been a one man team.

Are you seriously suggesting that if they buy 2/3 of Sanchez/Cavani/Lavezzi standard of player to replace him they wont improve? Because they will.

It's got nothing to do with it, but you couldn't get three players of that quality for what they'll get for Suarez.

It'll be a lot, but not that much.

Sorry, I've just read it again. Even two would be unlikely.

30 league goal a season strikers do not grow on trees. This is a huge huge loss for them if he goes. To get someone of his level would cost them most of what they are selling him for and no guarantees that whoever takes his place will thrive in the Prem.

At the end of the day not many strikers have his goal record in any league, losing him could take them years to get over.

Newcastle sold Carrol and became a better team, Utd sold Beckham and became a better team, RS sold Rush and became a better team....

There's plenty that have sold their best players and improved, just like we did. As ever it's about how wisely the money is spent, like a couple of others I won't be laughing to hard until the window is closed. The only caveat being there trying to introduce to many new players into a settled squad all at once, thats generally the main ingredient for poor disjointed displays.

Carroll and Beckham weren't outstanding, world class players and replacing them isn't even nearly as hard as replacing Suarez. And, BTW, Beckham was never United's best player.

Not by a long shot.

A Suarez-less Liverpool is like a comb with three teeth on it.

Those saying 'they might be a better team without him' - that's great. But you win games with goals, and that feller will waltz out the door taking with him the third of all goals you'd expect them to score next season.

It is an unmitigated disaster for Liverpool.

Good old Dave.

Cutting through the bollox, as usual.

What was Liverpools bench like last year? Cause, as far as I'm concerned, they'll need to be spending every penny of any Suarez money to improve the squad enough to even consider competing on the fronts they'll be expecting to. If, as a few are saying, they get 1-2 players in with the Suarez money of a decent quality, it just wont be enough. Lets not forget aswell, that down to whatever witchcraft they used, Suarez never seemed to get injured, and could therefore cover when Sturridge inevitable was. Ask Sturridge to play 2-3 times a week? No way.

Difference with us? Youth. We have, maybe 4 youth players who are looking to be able to start some squad inclusion, and they'll be able to cover in a European competition that is lacking the quality, certainly during the early stages, of the UCL. This means that if we buy 2-3 improvements on the first team, alongside the return of Gibson, Oviedo, Kone, rentention of Barry and, though imo not essential, Lukaku we are in a great, great position.

So if Liverpool sell Suarez and buy well so that they have 3-4 players to replace him, they should be just fine

United sold 3 players and replaced them with 5

Liverpool are selling 1 and will replace with at least 3, if he's sold at all
Think Spurs are a better comparison.

They sold their far and away best player. Replaced him with a bunch of players that were great in other leagues. Didn't work. Their ex-best player won the CL.

Selling one of the best players in the world almost never makes a team better. Even Ronaldo and Utd. Sure they kept winning for a few years, but do you think they would have finished 7th last year if they'd had Ronaldo? Even Moyes wouldn't have missed top 4 with Ronaldo.
