ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC"

The fact Sterlings agent has leaked this story about them turning down £180k a week clearly shows how unhappy he is there. Just look how this has played out, offered £80k says he wants £100k, they agree to that so he pushes it further to £150k hoping they won't match it and even has the cheek to ask for a mid season holiday that they pay for and they give in. So now he's stuck and goes for £180k a week hoping they'll bottle it and let him leave. They'll probably cave in on this and he'll have to ask for over £200k before they get the message.

He's desperate to get out it seems and is willing to risk losing money in the process to get his way. I wonder what's been going on behind the scenes to make Sterling hate being there so much? I bet Gerrard's been putting poison down as a leaving present after the way Rodgers and the owners have treated him over his contract. Its probably the reason Henderson hasn't signed his contract as well.

the RS infested media has overhyped him up so much that his agent is playing off that quite brilliantly. not that i know anything about agencying, but it seems like it's been made a pretty straightforward process by them from liverpool. based on this he's clearly a greedy sod - they're in cuckoo land if they think he's going to be working as hard whilst getting 180k a week. he's a bright young player, but he's played a year and a half in the prem, liverpool are being so stupid and paying for having such red tinted glasses.

Didn't them celebrating a league title in April and meeting the team coach before home games raise a smile loooweee? How about when Gerrard came a cropper? Palace? Let's win 10-0 and improve our goal difference? How about laughing at how bad United are only to be behind them again within one season? Do you like comedy loooweee?

Yes and no

Can't see it myself,t would blow Wengers wage structure out of the water, the sums that have been leaked out lead me to believe the RS will have one unhappy bunny on their books next seasonlol
Yeah, earlier in the thread I raised the same issue if his wage demands are real and tbh it is the main reason I think he'll end up at City. From a development standpoint though he'd probably be better joining Arsenal as Wenger has a decent track record of trusting and using young players.

A lot of the media are painting this as "greedy Sterling and his agent want more money" and it might be as simple as that, he has got a bit of a history of just going to the highest bidder.

But his reluctance to sign a new contract might be more complex than that. Perhaps involving factors such as how often he is likely to be in the CL, his playing position and the general squad quality around him - this season there has been an over-reliance on Sterling so he's probably played more minutes than ideal all around the pitch and now is playing with an injury.

Take the actual player out of the question, but just how big an ego/nerve must any 20 year old have to ask, in all seriousness apparently, one of the most famous football clubs around, (yeah, shoot me, but they are), to be paid £180,000 A WEEK?

It beggars belief.

It does, but then if your Manager says this, its only right you ask for wages to reflect his "value".

Rodgers was delighted with the teenager's performance and believes that he is the best young player in Europe.

"I think he is the best young player in European football at the moment," he told Sky Sports.

"He is 19 years of age and I don't see anyone better. He is intelligent with the ball and he has been concentrating on scoring goals.

"His first goal was a wonderful strike and his pass for Luis' goal was like a top midfield player. Then there was his positioning for the counter-attack for the third goal.

"His overall performance has shown so much maturity and, for me, he is the best young player in European football at the moment."

True. I will be expecting our lads to ask for a phenomenal pay rise any moment.

....supply and demand, Matey, and in the modern game the best players hold all the aces. He'll know what is on offer elsewhere, he'll know where he'd prefer to live (London probably), he'll know the signing fee he'll probably get so he could force a move by making daft demands of his current club.

Yeah, sadly. Saw Tom Ritchie this afternoon, played for Bristol City and Sunderland, (and a Scottish International) when City were in Div 1.

Posting letters for the Royal Mail.

Nor sure Raheem will need a second income when he draws his pension.
