ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC"

He was giving it loads this time last season about the players they'd attract and the money they'd spend with Champions League.

£120 million.

Bargin I say.

@davek

what's the latest update on Aldo?
he's 'resting' in his huggy jacket at the moment.

RAWK...
TBF to Ings he might well be one of those you 'buck the trend' for. If we get him for 6m, and start him off on 50k a week or so we'll be able to get 10m for him next summer if he doesn't work. I'd probably be tempted to have a nibble at him.

So, let me get this right, you sign a player for 6 million.... he doesn't perform so you just sell him for 10 million.... this is where we've been going wrong then .

Rodgers: Liverpool FC must target 'marquee' players - we got what we deserved tonight
http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/rodgers-liverpool-fc-must-target-9141049#rlabs=1

Brendan Rodgers is excelling himself at the moment even surpassing his usual Stanley Unwin garbled quotes...the RS circus will seemingly be requiring even more marquees to house their close season strikers though, hes not sure how many.

“But it is just having that reference, or two or three references, at the top end of the field. That gives the other players confidence and movement to create opportunities.
And he reiterated that here, stating that he would ideally like the club to target “marquee” players in the transfer market.
“For supporters, and for players themselves, it is always great if you can get in those marquee players that can really help you,” he said.
And I think we can see that that's the type, maybe the one or two players, that we need.
If they are attainable, and affordable within the model, the club will do everything they can to get them.”
“You can't hide away from the fact that we've lost over 50 goals, and any team that loses that is going to struggle.
“With Suarez and Sturridge last season, we still weren't tipped to be in the top four, we were still written off! Now, without them, the challenge is even greater for us

They've been one or two players away every season for the past 25 years. If you put two or three world class players into any squad in the top ten they'd probably crash the top 4. They cost an absolute premium though and don't go to teams outside the top 4 hence all the wailing every season from that lot. They had their chance in that 7/8 year spell they had of guaranteed top 4 finishes and no FFP on what they could spend but they wasted it all. Apparently City and Chelsea are now 'ruining modern football' by doing exactly the same but better.

They must feel so cheated. Absolutely noone in football knew that Sturridge had a dodgy injury record.

how much does this fella want to waste?
They are no better than when he started his spree, long may it continue

Now he can finally bring in his long term top target Ashley Williams for 15 mill. He'll back it up with Ings for 8 and Milner for free. Meanwhile Skrtel and Lucas will leave. These are the big name players Rodgers deserves to clear out the deadwood of Rafas/Kenny's squad. I mean he's done such a good job already: Kuyt, Reina, Agger, Carragher, Carrol, Downing, Shelvey, Suarez, Gerrard all shown the door by Rodgers to make way for his Galacticos. Brilliant squad management by Brendan.

Of course Kopites never see the bigger picture and ever immersed in their own short-sightedness have their "marquee" gob***te journalist, Kristian Walsh giving an over-elaborate, typically RS stats heavy breakdown of who they should/shouldn't sign (rather like Sanchez, regardless of whether they would come of course). The only interesting features in this tedium are the three categories within which the strikers are rated...GOALS, CHANCES CREATED and.....SUCCESSFUL DRIBBLES. Personally, I prefer Walsh's own dribble at Crystal Palace, which I would say was more than successful.........
