ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC"

also what i read today on BBC:

Steven Gerrard is one of the ultimate one-club players and as QPR's Joey Barton pointed out yesterday on Twitter, he has only had one haircut in all his time at Liverpool.

umm? you mean the guy is going to have played for two clubs?

Drives me mad this. What part of ONE-CLUB is hard to grasp??

Paulo Maldini, Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs for example are all one-club players and far and beyond better than Gerrard.

They all try to do a Rooney from Crocky job on it and say Gerrards "from Huyton's tough Bluebells Estate" sic....as though it was a smashed up ghetto. There were harder ould women further down the road in Page Moss than the supposed hardknocks there...and that was in the Kwik Save not The Eagle either !!!

Your not whistling Dixie there my friend, coming from Page Moss I can vouch for them ould women. walking out of the old co,op with their shopping not putting it in to the boot of a car lid today, but walking home with about 6 bags of shopping on each arm.

Rodgers on Gerrard: "I asked members of staff if they could describe Steven in one word, what word would that be. It's Liverpool. Not just Liverpool as a football club but Liverpool the supporters and Liverpool the city.
This is a guy who is very much about the city, about his people. He loves the city. He's had a number of opportunities to move away from here to prestigious clubs but this is his club. He grew up around the corner. When it comes to what he's given the city, politicians haven't given the same amount to the city. It's incredible really. He's a wonderful symbol for the people here and is an icon of the club."

He's from Whiston, you blarney spouting nobhead.

FFS, the stuff about this gangster associating, kid mowing down, DJ smacking, diving fraud is astounding.

I'm convinced all this media overkill is because we don't have a title race, no CL spots up for grabs, and no Euro representation so there's nothing left to write about this season.

Unreal. He won a CL medal. That's it. 18 years without sniffing a title.

The most overrated "legend" ever.

He sniffed the title last year. Then he fell over

This season Liverpool fans would have rather seen Gerrard score than then actually win.

That FA cup semi final performance was a joke. No other team in world football would have let this sentimental shambles take over their season apart from the [Poor language removed].

Brenda said its not the end for Slippy and LFC,there will always be a place for him,has long as I am here. which begs the question, Why is he leaving. ?

Lets face it: the reality is that Liverpool are nothing now...not a major player at home or abroad. They'll therefore seek to exploit any event that can get them publicity...and they have plenty of friends in the media who'll accommodate them in doing that.

Imagine Chelsea having to do this with John Terry, or a few years ago Arsenal with Tony Adams...even Giggs, a true winner and legend, didn't get this level of recognition and frenzy from United/the media.

This all just underlines how far Liverpool have fallen - emphasises their weakness rather than strength.

Rodgers an expert on the city after living here for 3 years

Ok

Hope Gerrard breaks his leg in three places tomorrow

Aside from Rodgers' weird "Liverpool" diatribe, this line amused me:

"I will miss Steven Gerrard as a man. I think both our interests are purely devoted to Liverpool Football Club," he said.

Him trying to shoehorn some affection off Gerrard is equal parts sad and hilarious.
