ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC"

It reached unbearable levels though, it was like them and the media had decided that they'd won it and that was that. Thank god I wasn't alive when they won the league every year...

It was remarkably similar to the way the Conservative Party navigate the media. Just basically declare to the world you are the winners, often will little respect for the result itself. If people question your facts just slag them off, insult them etc. It's why I can't stand our media.

Lets face it: the reality is that Liverpool are nothing now...not a major player at home or abroad. They'll therefore seek to exploit any event that can get them publicity...and they have plenty of friends in the media who'll accommodate them in doing that.

Imagine Chelsea having to do this with John Terry, or a few years ago Arsenal with Tony Adams...even Giggs, a true winner and legend, didn't get this level of recognition and frenzy from United/the media.

This all just underlines how far Liverpool have fallen - emphasises their weakness rather than strength.

They crave media attention more than anything else as it's the only thing that will keep them relevant. Ultimately that's why they hate Mourinho because he is the ultimate circus act and has the temerity to do them on the football pitch then get away with it in the press. No 'unlucky Liverpool' or 'plucky x scrape past mighty Liverpool'. Jose has the pedigree so any sort of scraped win is reported as a tactical masterclass and they absolutely hate it. Ultimately he has everyone talking about Chelsea for better or worse and this is precious time away from people talking about der greatest club in der world lad.

Soon they will be firmly esconsed on the outside looking in as we were for most of 2003-2010. The old 'big 4' never really died. All that happened was City overtook the weakest one, an arrogant Liverpool happy to finish fourth every year lapping up media adulation about that one night in Istanbul. Spurs had a brief flirt thanks to the emergence of Modtic and Bale when City were still getting to grips but then the top 4 were in place. Fergie's retirement shook the plates slightly allowing Liverpool to foolishly think they were going to be part of the new order at the expense of Man U, poor naive them. In one season Van Gaal has taken United straight back in and who can see any of those 4 dropping out now? As long as Mourinho and Wenger stay the London clubs are Certs whilst United and City have unrivalled spending power. Only another pivotal figure like Moyes or Suarez will break the new hold. Cannot wait for the fume as they embark on another 5 years outside of the champions league. They really missed their chance this year.

With Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard set to play his last game at Anfield this weekend, Madame Tussauds Blackpool have marked the occasion by taking a statue of the club icon on a tour of the city.

The 34 year-old is set to join LA Galaxy this summer after 17 years playing in front of the Kop.

The statue, which perfectly captures Gerrard's trademark sullen disposition, was whisked across Liverpool stopping off at landmarks including the Liver Buildings, the Mersey and Anfield before a farewell at the John Lennon Airport.

Matthew Titherington, General Manager at Madame Tussauds Blackpool said: “It will be sad to see Steven head to America, he is a true sporting legend, standing pride of place in our attraction. We wish him all the best at L.A Galaxy. He will always be a well loved part of our attraction.”

That legit hurt my eyes

The fact that we are having a discussion on whether that video is a joke or not is the joke in itself, as mentioned, what other set of fans would we be having this discussion about.

Why? Where is he going? You would have thought something like this would have been in the news!!!

I bet he does the emotion broken-voiced mic on the pitch routine after the game..."I didn't wanna like...but felt I owed it to the fans whove been different class with me ....zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz". I don't know why Carragher felt he had to publicly tell him that he shouldn't start crying on the pitch...hes crying all the way to the bank with his LA deal anyway. Having said that, I bet the fees will be astronomical for the interpreter his missus will need by her side for the Yanks to understand her...."say again, honey ?" "Wha the f***s 'ee sayin', Ste ? "
