ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC"

Lets face it: the reality is that Liverpool are nothing now...not a major player at home or abroad. They'll therefore seek to exploit any event that can get them publicity...and they have plenty of friends in the media who'll accommodate them in doing that.

Imagine Chelsea having to do this with John Terry, or a few years ago Arsenal with Tony Adams...even Giggs, a true winner and legend, didn't get this level of recognition and frenzy from United/the media.

This all just underlines how far Liverpool have fallen - emphasises their weakness rather than strength.

awaiting the day this one club hero retires. he'll get an article in a newspaper no doubt.

@danielstorey85: Shout out to the Liverpool supporters selling tickets for £1200 a fortnight after fans protested about £50 prices.

just reminded me. was going to make this point when i seen the prices being branded about. nobody does hypocrisy like liverpool fans. seriously what do they expect to happen that would justify that price? such a cult it's unreal.

they're making all this pa lava, but more than likely he'll be back on loan within a few months. all this last game crap that they're doing in the media - it's utterly laughable.

imagine spending £1200 on a ticket for stevie mee's last ever game at anfield and then he comes back a few months later, i'll laugh my cock off. BBC seem to have forgot he's got one more game after this, so expect another week of all this crap about a man despised by pretty much the whole country.

Blimey. just heard the BR press conference from earlier!

So Slippy is now the Patron Saint of the city of Liverpool it seems!

If you hear a rumbling noise tonight, its only some of our fair city - born political giants turning in their graves. People like Gladstone - Prime Minister manifold and a national historical icon...Bessie Braddock...Frank Hornby (politician, inventor and creator/provider of jobs for thousands upon thousands in the city through his Meccano)...and many more. People who, according to Brendan Rodgers have done nothing for the city compared to Steven Gerrard and moreover, he not only goes to print on it, but also has the crass stupidity to think he looks clever saying it on television. He makes David Brent look like the Dalai Lama .... running his own self obsession and crass opinions up a very high flagpole to show off...but ultimately for people to say what a moron. The cheap circus rolls on...what was that about humility ??

This the same Gerrard born in Whiston, tried to leave for Chelsea in 2005, lived in Formby for his entire career, has just this week openly said how difficult it is for him to live in the city with his family, undermined most of the managers he worked with at Liverpool, and is now leaving the city because he wasn't guaranteed to start every game. Yes clearly there's no doubt that he is history's greatest Liverpudlian. Let's not get into his off field behaviour or his embarrassing international career.
