ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC"

Why though? It's a lot of money to me and you but to these players it's just an pretty average wage. They can't help that the market dictates these big salaries and other sports players and entertainers earn more for doing less but they never get such bad publicity and given reputations of being greedy.

But again they've said they'd reject huge sums because it's about where he plays not who's paying him the most.
It's the wages of footballers in general I meant mate.

Things must be getting pretty desperate when Flanagan's new contract gives them fresh hope!!

Fair play to them for giving him a new contract though - with his knee operation he's not realistically expected to feature until the latter part of the season if at all.

Since his contract ran out this summer they could have said tough luck, go find somewhere else to recuperate and come back in a year of you can still play but they do appear to be looking after an academy graduate.

As the Grauniad point out, its a 12 month deal for someone who was a first team regular at one point, so its not as if they have done that much for him.

At least it covers his main recovery period though and he'll get access to what should be good rehab facilites - very hard doing that when on your own.

Tbh the rumours were that it was Flanagan that was reluctant to sign for them, even when injured, because of similar concerns that Sterling has.

For the sake of argument, lets agree that he is a talented, young, England international player, who has some obvious qualities, and some work to be done on others. Who has publicly said he wants to leave for a better chance to win stuff. Or his agent has, so same thing.

So, where to next? United havnt bought a Liverpool player since 1756. You could argue that neither Chelsea nor Arsenal need a player like him, and Jose hardly has a track record in buying "potential" anyrate.

City? Possible/probable new manager this summer, (for some reason it seems), and again, other than a possible replacement for Milner, who some say is going to that lot anyrate, makes some sense, but it hardly looks like a bidding war is about to break out does it?

So Liverpool can value him as much as they like, but the reality is, they have a lad on £35k pw, who it seems can buy his contract out for zippo in 12 months, so the valuation will be the buying clubs to dictate it seems to me.

Or have I missed something?

Yes mate, he's a girly running soft arse who happens also to be a one trick pony............

RS fans need to remember that their very own Daniel Sturridge tried to hold Man City to ransom at a similar age and they told him to do one. He showed some early promise for them and expected a ridiculously well paid contract.

Rodgers yet again trying the line that Sterling is some waif being led astray by a big nasty agent. Perhaps he is just trying to protect Raheem from crowd abuse but don't think Rodgers being continually patronising to him will make him keen to stay.

He’s a young man who has obviously passed on his career to other people and, unfortunately, whether people perceive it as right or wrong, he is being led by the representative. But the young boy I see on a daily basis and who I work with is still the same boy who wants to learn and I think the supporters will just continue to show what they always do, which is wonderful support for every player in the Liverpool shirt.”

He's gone from being the greatest player in Europe to this young boy.....*prays for Raheem.........

This us the straw I am clinging to.

He stays with them and they don't get the silly money being touted around for him.

I think it us only the mugs at City would shell out mega millions for him.
