ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC"

Whilst it's hilarious to watch all this going on, I'm desperate for Sterling to stay tbh.

He's not all that (yet). Good in patches, but yet to show anything long term, which he may well do. Even if he does, he's still surrounded with Hendo, Flano, Balo and Lucas-o, etc. He'll never be as good as Suarez or Torres were and they couldn't drag the RS to the title.

That is the preferable situation, over Brenda having £30m ish extra to spend on top of whatever "support they don't get from the board" ie another £80m probably.
Sooner or later, he'll sign someone half decent. Throw enough shoite at the wall and something's gotta stick.

I don't think it will mate. What exactly is their transfer policy? Sign players from a team that had a good season last season. Sign players who sit on the CL clubs bench or sign troubled players that we can make better players. Whatever it is it's a weird one so I'd rather they have another £30 million to spend on a Henderson and a Joe Allen than a player like Sterling.

Whether he goes or not isn't important, it's just tremendous that a young player wants to leave the pit to better themselves. They really have sunk to depths I never thought I'd see.

More deluded crap from Rodgers, love the bit where he says "the player would not be unhappy with the prospect of having to stay at the club."

"Raheem has two years left on his deal and I expect him to see that two years through."

Rodgers said Sterling would be available for selection for the team's last game of the Premier League season against Stoke on Sunday and insisted the player would not be unhappy with the prospect of having to stay at the club.

"We want to resolve the situation but it doesn't change my approach to him. There is no problem there," he added.
'Brenda removes his head from up his own @**e to bury it in the sand' SHOCKER

If wee Sterling does stay can't he buy his contract out next year and leave them with nothing?

Hmmm...

Yes, the Websters ruling, although think clubs have an informal agreement not to buy players under those circumstances as if it became widespread it would cause problems for them all. Can't recall any players that have actually gone through with it recently, just threatened to get their exit.

How much would he have to pay to buy out?

Think Herrera bought out his contract at Athletic Bilbao to join Man U.
Don't follow Spanish football but isn't there some weird procedure where it is common for a player to buy their contract off the club for some registration purposes? Was during that fiasco about signing Herrera under Moyes that recall hearing it but could well have that wrong.

Herrera had to cover the amount that was in his buy out clause inserted in his contract, that was £28.5m, Man U then reimbursed him.

Could only find this on the Athletic site: A statement of Athletic Bilbao's website said: "The Football League has certified Athletic Club that player Ander Herrera Aguera has fulfilled the requirements of the applicable regulations valid for unilateral termination of the employment contract that bound him to our Club, by depositing today the amount of compensation established in the contract.

If he's on £35,000 per week he would have to pay £1.82M as the final year of his contract. Assuming he goes somewhere on £150,000 a week it would take him around 12 weeks to earn £1.82M. After that he will see the benefits of the higher wage. Seems like a no brainer if he is still there a year from now.

I imagine his new club would pay him back for the 1.82 as a signing bonus, right?

I would guess so - probably a lot more. In his situation, once it gets to next summer I think he's gone no matter what Liverpool may think. If they decide to make him stay this summer they could effectively lose him for nothing in 12 months.
