ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC"

For the sake of argument, lets agree that he is a talented, young, England international player, who has some obvious qualities, and some work to be done on others. Who has publicly said he wants to leave for a better chance to win stuff. Or his agent has, so same thing.

So, where to next? United havnt bought a Liverpool player since 1756. You could argue that neither Chelsea nor Arsenal need a player like him, and Jose hardly has a track record in buying "potential" anyrate.

City? Possible/probable new manager this summer, (for some reason it seems), and again, other than a possible replacement for Milner, who some say is going to that lot anyrate, makes some sense, but it hardly looks like a bidding war is about to break out does it?

So Liverpool can value him as much as they like, but the reality is, they have a lad on £35k pw, who it seems can buy his contract out for zippo in 12 months, so the valuation will be the buying clubs to dictate it seems to me.

Or have I missed something?

I think he's overrating himself, or at least his agent is.

If we take away the comedy factor of Liverpool fans not being able to comprehend a decent-ish player actively trying to leave for better things (hahahahahaha), it's actually quite disgusting to watch someone at his age come out with refusals of £100k per week. There's people on food banks, etc....

All that's wrong with the game, this. Except it's funny because it's them.

Yep. Pretty much. Cant blame them though. After all, the main reason so much money is lobbed at football is the players.

I think the agents 900k a week remark is basically saying it doesn't matter what Liverpool offer he doesn't want to play for them.
If he doesn't want to play for LFC then what is the problem with him rejecting a contract offer regardless of salary offered?

Yeah Sterling has said its not about money at this stage, his agent has said if they'd offer ridiculous amounts of money he still won't sign. It seems it's not about the money.

It's all about the club.

I would guess so - probably a lot more. In his situation, once it gets to next summer I think he's gone no matter what Liverpool may think. If they decide to make him stay this summer they could effectively lose him for nothing in 12 months.
Everyone says that but How many players actually do that Cech and de gea can do that but they won't tbecause no footballer wants to dip into his own pockets. I doubt sterling will have the money to this anyway

I understand that.

I suppose it's the sheer amounts of money (don't forget £100k/week has been reported as being rejected) that does my head in.

I thought he's never mentioned money? It's been the club that started it, he only ever first said its about winning things? I'm with him, leave those tools and we will all be lol'ing!!

Adrian Durham was right earlier, it's about time liverpool fans realised they aren't the team they once were.

I pray Southampton get 5th place and Liverfail only get in the euro league through fair play and have to start back beginning of July.. lollol

Oh I'm all for players deserting them.

I don't know who mentioned the amount, whoever it is should know better in this socio-economic climate (get me, on a moral high horse).

Why though? It's a lot of money to me and you but to these players it's just an pretty average wage. They can't help that the market dictates these big salaries and other sports players and entertainers earn more for doing less but they never get such bad publicity and given reputations of being greedy.

But again they've said they'd reject huge sums because it's about where he plays not who's paying him the most.
