Brendan Rodgers set to stay at Liverpool after positive talks with club officials
Brendan Rodgers is set to continue as Liverpool manager after he held positive discussions with the club executive at a meeting in the city centre on Tuesday.

The Northern Irishman’s position was under review following a disappointing season in which Liverpool finished in sixth place on 62 points, 25 behind the champions, Chelsea.
Rodgers met Tom Werner, the chairman, and Fenway Sports Group president, Mike Gordon, for talks and it is understood the manager impressed with plans to markedly improve the team next season. This has led to a firm sense he will remain in place.
Among the players he wishes to recruit to strengthen the squad is Manchester City’s James Milner. However it is understood that the 29-year-old, who would be available on a free transfer, is yet to make any decision regarding his future. Although Milner is a priority signing for Rodgers the deal, if it does happen, may not be finalised in the coming days.

Great day for footy!

An utter humiliation for the no mark.

He's been graded by his boss and told "must do better".

FFS, what manager of any club, still less one that thinks of itself as a major club, would bend the knee to ultimatums like that?

What a desperate, untalented, beaut - totally lacking in principles and dignity.

Talk about dead man walking.

Big, big mistake too. The Kopites are going to react to this by thinking about the zero chance afforded Dalglish and be fuming and looking to get on gnashers back at every turn.

Yep, and with the press and the pundits onto him now as well he's likely the most under pressure manager of the season before a balls been kicked.

Can see the story now:

'Exciting times for Saints as they get cash windfall after some anonymous benefactor comes in and gives them £50 million in exchange for 2 players, it is believed that the two players in question left with the benefactor screaming that they did not want to go with the 'small man' who 'talked weird' and 'didn't make any sense'.

Milner would be an excellent signing for them. Ings a decent one too, certainly an improvement on Lambert. Clyne reeks of them not learning their lesson though, and I reckon they'll be stung for £15m+ for a very average full back there.

Benteke would be a good signing but if they pay close to £30m it's a colossal gamble.

They look to have lined up better transfers this summer and are focussing on Premier League experience, but I'm delighted they've kept that fraud on as manager.

Can't see the point of them trying to sign Benteke, he goes against everything Rodgers sets his team out to do as well as the business plan laid down by FSG.

He's a decent player but since Brodgers got their they don't play the sort of game he thrives on, he'd just be another Baloteli failure.

It's got a massive resemblance to how Chelsea ended up with Torres.

Just looking at the Echo comments to the two 'Rodgers stays' stories: The kopites absolutely detest that gnashers was spared.

He's marking time there. It really is just a question of when not if.
