ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC"

25 million is too much for Sterling, but it's nowhere near enough for the player Rodgers has been talking about all season. Man City are rubbing their todger against Liverpool's leg now, seeing how far they can go before they eventually just jock them and give them an over the counter knee trembler they're not like to forget.

They're probably looking to offload Navas and maybe even Nasri though.

I still don't think he'd play very much if he went there

Having confidence in your ability is one thing, but you also need to be capable of putting eyes on yourself and being realistic

If I was Sterling's agent, I'd be saying "You're not ready for a big move yet. Sign your Liverpool contract, get your head down and I'll have you at Tippy Top European side in 2 years time, max"

He honestly needs someone in his inner circle to tell him that

I'm not sure why I'm bothered like, as Liverpool losing a good player normally wouldn't perturb me in such a way. I think I just see him as some naive teenager (Due to the silly behaviour he's partaken in at times) and I kind of wish people would actually think about his career rather than their own pockets, be it Liverpool being stingy in a contract offer or his agent trying to milk a big sale to another team

I mean, how many of us could navigate such a situation at that age without support and advice?

The people advising Sterling would seem to have their own interests at heart as opposed to his and it bothers me somewhat

I mean, I'm sure if he's smart with his money he could move to City now and be set for life, but it could pretty much avert his career course from being an excellent player to just being another statistic. Another young English player who went to the big time before he was ready and as a result never met his full potential, all because one club didn't want to pay him an extra 10K a week and his agent wanted to milk his cash cow

I ended up ranting more about that than I thought I would

Again, I don't know why I care but I inexplicably do

Aidy Ward has played this like a pro. What Liverpool did over the course of the year was harassment, slow leaking stories and articles patting him on the head with one hand and holding a gun to it with the other. It's been an intimidation campaign. The best thing for Sterling is to get as far away from that club as possible.

......being a little cynical, many agents are looking for their 3% on the deal. In Sterling's case he could make a nice few bob now rather than wait a few seasons. Personally, I think he's talented but I do feel he would be better off at one of the London based clubs.

I don't agree to be honest. I think it's better for him to stay there for a season or two more

Don't get me wrong, I'll be thrilled if he doesn't as he's a good player and it'll hurt them to lose him, but I think the best thing for him is to stay and I think both the club and his agent have let him down here

Surprised most think hes a very good player to be honest, his out put from 18-20 has been terrific given hes just finished his second full season, hes not far of some really big hitters in the league, i think his output would have been even better if not for the shenannigans going on at Norway/England/contract/ being played at right back.

He has 15 years of a career in front of him, 35 - 40 mill for my money. Anything else is a premium.

The long slow dance has started after all the eyeing up for the last few months, I reckon it will probably end up around £35m plus add ons. Not as much as the RS would want and not enough to effect their recruitment this summer but priceless in regards to showing any decent player they're on the decline and can't keep hold of their top players.

It's a pivotal summer for them over at Mordor, more so than last year probably. Last year they got shown their place in the pecking order even with the carrot of CL football, this summer they can't offer that incentive, there's turmoil with the manager and coaching staff and they're losing their talisman and likely their top performer as well as ongoing contract disputes with other first team regulars.

It all screams of a club in crisis on a downward spiral. They need a summer of smart recruitment and then to get off to a good start next season otherwise they'll drop like a stone. So far Rodgers hasn't shown anything like being the man to reverse any of this.

I think to deny he's very good is a bit ridulous because he plays for them - for now.

Makes it all the sweeter when he twists the knife, they will have no one of any consequence.

Sterling is an excellent player with massive potential.

I go out of my way to not watch them mate if I'm being honest. But I do tend to put a little bit of money on from time to time and Sterling has been some thing of a value pick ion the markets - cleaned up on him at the start of the season, but not worth a bean second half.

In all fairness he's a terrific player and one well worth I would say 35 mill, given his age maybe 40. Brodge lost him after the England debacle and he's has been played at right back for most the second half of the season.

Will prove a very good player I have no doubt.

I'm confused.

Right. It's like this.

Rodgers banged on about bringing Sterling through slowly, overseeing his development, easy does it. He advised the FA to proceed with caution regarding Sterling's international career. He warned of 'burning out'.

The same man then played Sterling in as many games as possible. HE has burnt Sterling out. Sterling is mentally 'tired' as a direct result of Rodgers' mismanagement.

Sterling is not the player he was 12 months ago. This is not down to his 'attitude'. He is 'spent' and Rodgers has thrown him under the bus to cover for what is really abuse of an employee.

Playing the occasional game and coming off the bench is PERFECT for his development.

LFC and their management are 100% responsible for the state of this young man's career as it stands.

And their fans are too stupid to see it.

They've just signed Adam Bogdan on a free from Bolton to be their number 2 goalie.

Their first 3 transfers this summer have been frees, 2 of them from Championship teams.

Says a lot about the type of 'markets' they are signing from and how much money FSG are willing to given Rodgers.

For a team with Champions League/title (LOL) aspirations, some strange decisions are being made.

there's no way he's worth £40m. that's more than an obvious world class potential player like hazard. it's more than an alexis sanchez or a diego costa. it's around about the same as ozil! ozil's a lazy little sh*t but he's a fantastic footballer. sterling has potential granted, but as with any liverpool player it goes way over the top. you have to expect a bit more than potential for £40m. i mean i wouldn't say he's better than lukaku, he doesn't have stats that put him right up there with the best like lukaku - why is he worth £12m more?
English premium though, he's not worth anywhere close to 40 mil outside of the PL but he just might be to a rich club who need homegrown players. So, City.
