ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC"

Keep on meaning to look out for a detailed comparision between Spurs/Liverpool purchases and sales.

Both seem to buy a lot of players and are shopping in similar price bracket/talent pool. Would guess they have roughly equivalent attractions to players - Liverpool have the better "name" but Spurs are in London.

Spurs sold Bale for a lot and if the Sterling deal goes through Liverpool will have sold Torres/suarez/Sterling for high fees but iirc Liverpool are one of the highest net spenders whilst Spurs one of the lowest. Wonder how many times that extra spend has translated to the them being higher than Spurs.

Roughly :

Bought/Sold/Net/per season
£351,950,000 £221,770,000 £130,180,000 £26,036,000 Vermin 7 6 8 7 2 6 2014 wages 144m
£219,650,000 £241,500,000 -£21,850,000 -£4,370,000 Spurs 4 5 4 5 6 5 2014 wages 100m

Thanks

So the main difference is in the purchases rather than the sales. Wonder if that means their net fee per player is higher or if they just buy more players than Spurs overall, tbh they both seem to get in lots in comparison to us :(

Yet Spurs much more consistent in finishing position despite lower wages. Especially given their rotating coach situation that is pretty amazing tbh.

So Spurs buy more players which means their average cost (bar mistakes such as Soldado) must be quite a bit lower than Liverpool to cause such a difference in the purchase figures.

Wish they had labelled the 2nd graph with the clubs despite the general correlation. If the Chardonnay hasn't corrupted me Liverpool is the 4 managers and 90 whilst Spurs are the higher of the 11 manager dots.

Man Utd have a ridiculously low turnover figure, wonder how that will have changed by the end of the transfer window.

Yeah the 2nd 1 blew my head off, no idea whats even going in that 1, was gonna remove it but really cba. :D

United have had 3 managers in that time period, its late cba checking when Wenger joined, Arsenal 1? Everton 2? You would think thats a factor, but then Villa have had millions of managers and spent a decent chunk of change on players.

Aresnal is definitely the 1 manager and Man Utd/Everton both on two as don't think they are counting up to LVG as there are none on 3.

After that it is a bit of free for all, apparently John Carver was caretaker manager for 2 days in Newcastle in 2004 so no idea if he counts, although if his most recent spell is anything to go by it was probably an improvement!

Hilarious that on one hand Liverpool are saying Benteke isn't worth near £32m.....but on the other, they're asking for £50m for Sterling.....

Sadly Man City are so rich they will waste £50m on Sterling......ridiculous!...

Not really arsed. They will just waste it on thrash.
