Brendan is already conceding to Gerrard he can play his normal game if he likes (which is basically 50 yard punts all over the pitch completely missing out midfield). In January they'll get Carroll back or buy someone they can go more direct with when it's going tits up (sold to the fans and media as a big lad who can also play on the deck etc etc).

Translated as "I don't trust this kid as far as I can throw him and the club are flapping cos everyone's agents are trying to get them moves".
