ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC"

Liverpool decided to pull out if the following seasons uefa cup. No more, no less.

What does the Echos apology have to do with anything?

The frankly pathetic plaque on the wall is a joke and had they not drawn Juve then they wouldn't have apologised at all

The Echo's apology wasn't bolded as part of my point, I just don't like pulling out individual words out of sentence.

I didn't mention the plaque as I'm focusing on what they did, rather than what they didn't do.

No comments about my last 2 paragraphs though?

There's nothing self reighteous about it, calling them murderer is idiotic in the extreme and yes most educated neutrals would consider it piss poor to do so just as they consider it piss poor to label millions of Muslims as terrorists because a tiny portion are involved in terrorism.

To continue your analogy if muslims denied that 9/11 was caused by muslims would you call them up on it?

I don't know how old you guys are, but having watched it at the time, and growing up in the seventies when the kind of incident that happened at Heysel was commonplace gives it more context. Yobs followed football (some still do). Most RS fans were, and are, embarrassed about their ' supporters' part in the disaster. Hooliganism was called the British disease, but if you look at Eastern Europe now you will see similar behaviour still goes on. Nobody can defend the individuals who attacked the Juve fans but I was involved as an innocent bystander in several similar incidents and I was just a kid. Football grounds could be scary places in those days.

Ok then. No one is point scoring. I don't like people hiding from responsibility or people trying to alter history to suit their on purpose.

Sorry for jumping in at the end fella's but it is worth noting that whilst most fans try to brush it under the carpet, Heysel has been accepted by the majority as a dark stain on their history. The problem is that when you know you are part of something bad, you sometimes get defensive about it and try to remove all blame elsewhere or try to justify it in some way.

Don't get me wrong I have fell out with a friend or two because when you talk about it you get the 'was you there ?!' comment, to which I reply no, but neither was you, but thousands were who witnessed it. Cue the abuse aimed at me.

Now here's the thing, I would rather we let the whole thing go and leave them to get on with their own. We cannot change the past.
They know their club will always have the stain on their history books, so lets leave it at that. No matter how hard they try it wont be forgotten.

Like someone said earlier, they only really made a slight effort to shake hands and make friends with Juventus because they got them in the UCL, no doubt about that.

Sure there was also pictures of Juve fans turning their backs on the banner ?

Yes I would. But that's not my point. Youve just changed the goal posts. There is no great "heysel denial" movement like people who deny the hollocaust. I've never met a single Liverpool fan who denies it happened or tries to blame it on others. That's not to say such people don't exist but they are surely a minority. If they all thought they were innocent why is there no hillsborough style campaign to clear the accused ?

If that's your reality based on interactions with Reds then I don't know where you live or who you speak to because it differs completely from mine, and I suspect if people are honest, most on here.

Disagree about the point scoring, I think its 100% about that. Losing in a derby? Sing Murderers. RS player is fouled? Sing always the victim etc etc but I accept that no-one who has an opinion will ever change it online.

Anyway Gerry nice to see you back, not seen you in here while the RS were on their bad run.
One win later here you are defending then.....

Because they want to pretend the whole thing never happened lad.

Disagree, its very much become about point scoring and that's the problem

Its not like I think this is exclusive to Everton fans. I'm sure the same situation would exist if other teams with a rivalry were involved in a similar situation.

Football fans traditonally struggle to have rational outlook on anything involving their club or their rivals, especially the ones who are hardcore enough to spend time on forums etc.

It's about institutional responsibility for me. Anyone can see that they ignore Heysel as much as they possibly can, probably because it would hurt their brand. An unofficial apology in the Echo 20 years later doesn't change that.

Your opinion but you have no right to bad mouth all blues about this. You do not know their motives for calling them murderers. You've put your opinion forward. It's clear that the blues in this thread disagree.
