ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC"

Re Suso.

I was tempted to tell one of our clients to "get to ****" just then. I'd have been justified in doing so and I doubt he would have been particularly offended.

That said, I'd have probably been disciplined and even sacked maybe for doing so. What with it being highly unprofessional of me and all that.

They're doing Chelsea a favour. They couldn't get rid of him for a proper fee, and then suddenly Liverpool have came along, agreed to his stupid contract demands and gave Chelski a wedge for their trouble at the same time.

If this is "moneyball", long may it continue.

Too right, a bit like Rodwell for us.

Burst onto the scene and living off a few months of the 'surprise element'. Doesn't add anything to the team (in different ways), not really a massive sellable asset so wait for a numpty to come along and buy them for more than their worth.

Bluenose1995:

Decent post there mate and I see where you're coming from but my position is this: It might seem like the PC brigade are looking for stuff to be offended by (and, I dunno, maybe some of them are) but my own view is that I'm not offended by it (i.e. I'm not willfully finding offence in things) but I will react accordingly to the butt of the joke being offended by it and/or the butt of the joke being oppressed in some way by the joke being made. Sh*t, that sounds really clunky and pious and self-important but really what it means is this:

It's not enough to not mean any harm. You have to acknowledge that sometimes, even though you meant no harm at all, harm was done anyway by legitimising prejudicial views with your merry quips, as inconvenient as that may seem to you.

I used to be in a dominoes team (I was in my 20s at the time, though you may never believe that) in Southport and some of the lads would tell [Poor language removed] and coon jokes, even though Harvey, one of our team, was from Barbados. They didn't mean any harm at all, of course. But they were causing it because they were complicit in an act that perpetuated prejudicial attitudes against racial minorities. Harvey, of course, would laugh it off because he had no other choice. After all, they didn't mean any harm and if he did kick up a fuss he'd be some sort of uppity n*gger (after all, it's our country, not his), even though he was more of a gentleman than any of us. And anyway, it was all just a laugh, wasn't it? No harm meant.

It's not enough to say "Only joking, mate."

And if you need to be make racist or gay jokes to be funny you're probably not as funny as you think you are.

I know what you mean mate and I agree racist jokes are a patchy area its just the whole society we seem to be living in where people are getting fined and sometimes even arrested for stuff they say and put online without even meaning to cause offense is scary to me, I dont like getting into politics but we are diving into cultural marxism in the name of Political correctness and with the govt now planning to snoop in our emails and texts and al these plans for ID cards etc it doesnt sit easy with me if I wanted to live in north korea I would do haha

where are they getting the 16 mill for these 2 signings? i thought they only had a small amount too spend? maybe they are letting others go??
for someone on a restricted budget, hes bought allen 15 mill, borini 11 mill and now these two..thats near 30 mill!

Erm... It's nearer to £42M

Sturridge looked world class at Bolton. But I've never been too impressed with him at Chelsea. It may be that at a club that gets a lot of close attention from the opposition he struggles a bit. Hopefully. Liverpool were only willing to make a loan bid for him a few months ago and he's done **** all on the pitch since, so this looks like a panicky decision

Ince: I'd have shrugged if we'd got him, tbh.

Still, it must be nice to spend £18M like that.

It's just the latest in a long, yet expensive, line of instalments while on the rocky and embarrassing road to mediocrity.......

Sturridge. World class.

I might have his game all wrong, but I'd have thought they'd have gone for a more mobile player. I wonder - even if he were within their budget - whether Rodgers would have gone for this type of player at Swansea? I somehow doubt it.

You must have a different idea to me on what constitutes world class.

Yeah, WC was slighty overegging it! He looked a real predator with Bolton though. I hope he's left that behind permanently.
