ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC"

Let's put last night into perspective, Porto are pretty much neck and neck with Benfica and Sporting. Benfica lost every match in the group stages, including an aggregate 8-0 loss to the side that got battered by City. Sporting won two games against an awful Olympiakos team.

It's perfect as it gets them all giddy but there's no chance they can win this,

To be fair, whatever you want to say about Porto's own quality (or deficiencies) they played very well last night and have simply eased through.

Obviously I expect the competition will be much sterner in the next round, however unfortunately they've edged closer to potential success again.

I thought Coutinho not being there would stifle their goals

They have a ridiculous front 3.

How the hell can they still be averaging 2-3 goals a game with no drop off when Coutinho isn't there, their midfield has no bonafied play maker.

Portugal is such a awful league, bossing that league unbeaten all season in 26 and get spanked at home, pathetic.

If Porto played us at their place they'd stuff us 5-0

They will draw the winner of shaktar/roma....

Since Coutinho left they've needed a last minute goal to beat a Burnley side in free fall, needed a ridiculous decision to beat us, did well against a team with a mental block but vulnerabilities were exposed when they got their act together, lost to Swansea, got knocked out of the only competition they have a chance of winning by the bottom placed team, beat the worst team in the league, outplayed by a vastly superior team and lucky to get a point against Spurs, beat a team in the relegation zone and then beat a Portuguese league side.

But yeah...no drop off.

I wouldn't be unsurprised to be fair, although at least Roma should be a firmer task. Either PSG or one of the domestic clubs would be best.

they will get roma and squeeze past, then man city in semi who will play into their hands and they will get through to the final...then somehow they will the final

Doubt it. Wouldn't be surprised with the Roma prediction, but the likes of PSG, Barca or Real should be too much for their questionable defence.

I'm not saying they (the Devil's spawn) won't challenge the above defensively either, however this flaw should be enough for them to fail.

A domestic side would be a challenge also be a challenge as well, as already shown in numerous fixtures, so they're not lifting silverware yet.

Yeah they were absolute tripe in 05 yet everything fell their way perfectly. It’s done the same this year, even in qualifiers different teams won or didn’t win meaning Liverpool eeked into the seeded pot guaranteeing them an easier draw with the second leg at home, they then got possibly the easiest side in it who misses a pen. They then drew the easiest CL group of all time allowing them to top it thus guaranteeing the second leg at home again when they then drew the easiest team in the pot in Porto who were missing their best players.

Let’s see how many of the following now happen:

Mane Firmino and Salah will not miss a game for them in the CL

They will draw winner of Roma Shakhtar in the quarters with the second leg at home

They will have the second leg of the semi at home with the opposition missing key players through injury or suspension

What a wonderful, iconoclastic assessment ;)
