ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC"

why do so many teams feel the need to go out and 'play' against them?
when its obvious the opposite approach is more effective.

The problem is a lot of these teams are not used to losing. Especially at home. They’re used to winning leagues and regularly dispatching the fodder of their own league. It’s the Celtic syndrome. Therefore when it comes to European matches they play their normal game and give it a go which plays into the hands of any team who loves space and the opportunity to break with pace. Quite simply it’s impossible to gauge the quality of a lot of the teams/leagues in Europe which is why results like this happen and why a lot of signings from such leagues are gambles. See Cenk Tosun as a good recent example.

Trying to think rationally and no matter how you spin it, winning 5-0 away from home in Europe is not to be sniffed at- it doesn’t happen that often, no matter how you judge the quality of (or lack of) the opposition. On the flip side however there is no chance the RS could beat City or Spurs over two legs- if you consider their PL results against those two and then if you replicated those results Home and away in a cup competition they’d comfortably be eliminated. Once the last 8 is fully formed, they’ll very much be the 7th or 8th best team left in the competition. Obviously anything can happen but rationally there’s nothing to worry about.

Salah is superb, got to give him that.
I think one of you lurkers needs to start writing an open letter asking him to stay.
He is definitely having a great season but we shall have to wait and see if it continues next year.

Remember Papiss Cisse at Newcastle? When he first arrived he was truly amazing. Not just scoring but scoring worldies.

First season 13 in 14 games.
Second season 8 in 36.
Third season 2 in 24.

Well done rs. I hope we see them draw Shaktar and allow us to see Fonseca's audition for us. Perhaps whilst he is over in Merseyside we can convince him to come for a more permanent visit in the summer.

I'd definitely be sniffing around Salah/ Mane and Firminio if I was one of the big boys of European football. Firm. Can we see all change over at the pit next season? No slips or it could be trouble, perhaps get Gerrard to do a motivational speech?

Winning 5-0 away from home in the CL is a great result, denying it makes you look idiotic. However, there are several teams left who could smash them but that front three is a bit warm so injuries could be a deciding factor, hopefully.

Looking for a good bet to win it, impressive last night. No arguments.
They're chances have certainly increased however, as was mentioned earlier, the draw was favourable to them - they'll even admit that.

Competing against the likes or Real, PSG, Barca or a domestic team will be a much more daunting fixture; still, we do know their level of luck.

The BBC football page: they had as their front page all last night and early this morning: "Liverpool close in on CL quarter final"...then they took it off to run a headline story about Ronaldo reaching 100 CL goals....then they took it down and put the same Liverpool headline up again.

The BBC are giddy with Big Red winning and cant move on. But all the media have it in for them or something...
