Reminds me of when Pennington was thrown into a derby out of nowhere, don’t think he made another appearance.
I think the lack of options means Simms may get another go, he was isolated but didn’t put in a shift either.

Can't see him being a striker who's going to put a shift in, which given how we play is what we need. If he can't chase lost causes and give the opposition a headache he's going to struggle as a lone striker for us.

That is something i have noticed a few times with him. Same down at chelsea last season. Ok we get you aint getting great service. But bust a gut lad.

Wasn’t nasty enough for me. Playing as a lone striker against the RS and you have an obligation to get involved in a few niggles, pulling people over, jumping on their backs. He had an opportunity to get the Everton fans in his corner tonight and he was just too timid.

Maupay from the start and the mood in the side is different imo.

We needed someone snapping at their CB's heels early doors and getting in their heads/winning us cheap free kicks to put balls into the box and try make the crowd nervy.

Not saying the result would have been different but you lead from the front and we had a pussycat leading the line tonight.

Didn't see Gakpo pulling people over.....

If he was playing any other position, he would have the benefit of a teammate talking him through the game. It wasn't fair on him at all in that formation.

We need to play to this lads strengths. He broke all kinds of scoring records for the youth team and when I see us creating loads of chances and him missing sitters like Tom Davies did tonight, then I'll believe he is crap.

Don’t quite get this point. Gakpo wasn’t playing against the RS and he was playing as part of a front three.

I’m not writing Simms off, but you can think back to quite mediocre players like Jeffers who knew that the derby meant making a name for yourself by niggling the oppo
