What did concern me was that he really didn't put himself about. He's a huge man, you would, at least expect to see him battling.

Never been his game. That's what Unsworth tried to work on him with. One on one he's potent, but in the air and back to goal, poor.

Doesn't want anything to do with that side of the game and tonight showed it again. Give him chances though, he will slot.

BUT...we need more, we need a striker who runs all day, wins headers, holds up balls, brings others into play AND scores.

We had that 18 months ago in DCL

Unfortunately the club have decided to rely on him regardless of injuries

I expect he'll get another go against weaker opposition at some point, but it doesn't look like there's much there.

If the ball doesn't stick, you've got have either electric pace or ruthless finishing.

At least for his sake, he seems to be able to do it at lower levels.

You're right. He won't get more than 1 more start if his next game is a repeat performance. You can factor in the opposition and the fact he didn't have much support, but his overall play was just poor in every aspect.

Maybe his game is about being in a right place and getting himself a few goals but there's a huge step up from doing that in the Championship and doing it for a team in the bottom 3 in the league above who struggle to make chances.

Tough match for him as was Chelsea away. I would like to see more of him but I’m not sure we can afford that luxury. I’m still confident we can get a result Saturday. We showed some old Naiveties last night for the goals. Should have took one for the team and some really poor balls from the back which allowed them in. A goal would have put them on edge but we didn’t manage to get one back. That header which hit the post would have changed the dynamics of the game if it had of gone in but it wasnt to be.

Doubt it. In fact, doubt Unsworth ever worked to actually improve and ready any player for the first team.

He was a bit more aggressive in Scotland but he's generally not the grock type which is what our fans think he'd be, given that he's a bit tall.

That said, he won a few headers early game, but it didn't really amass to anything, and was also afraid to hold the ball up for some reason - a few one-touch plays (one of them to Doucoure lol ) which were rushed and didn't work.

He's also PROPER Championship right now btw.

He’s only 19 I remember DCL filling Lukakus boots at the same age and clearly wasn’t ready. Cut the kid some slack, it was hardly like we was on the front foot. A tough game for him to start he has got potential to improve.

….we know he’s not the answer but he’s better than anything else we have whilst Dominic Calvert-Lewin is unavailable. I’d stick with him over Maupay.

If Dyche loves 4-4-2, like many in here believe, I wouldn’t be against giving Maupay and Simms a go together, tbh.

I think they could make a good partnership, not sure what game id try it though.

Sunderland fan I know says this lad have never jumped to head a ball while playing for them. Strange for a big fella not to go for a header.
