He makes stuff happen all the time. He's incredible.

Although I'm not asking Simms to play like Haaland! I just think hes more effective as a sub.
Funny you mention Haaland, as these two players come under the same banner in a way. Haaland was looked at earlier in his career and deemed like he'd already hit his heights as a kid and basically had no room to progress where as the lads around him would catch up so had more room to progress. Obviously Haaland proved that theory wrong in his case.
I think Simms is a player that gives that theory more 'Credence' ( although I don't like that whole approach to judging youngsters )
I can't see a next level in Simms game, I think he's already hit it and that's why he stood out more as a youngster.

he's played enough championship and Scottish league games now that he shouldn't look like a lost puppy on the field ( no matter the opposition )
He'll be fine in the lower tier, but he is no premiership player.

I felt for Ellis Simms today, a little bit of composure in front of goal and things could have been completely different.

well, yes, but composure in front of goal is his job, so if he can't consistently deliver that, he can't be a striker. His form on that shot attempt was terrible. He scuffed it badly. Of course no player succeeds every time. Composure and quality in abundance for his Chelsea goal, so he is capable.

What bothers me a bit more is not seeing much evidence of other things that help the team. He recorded no tackles, no interceptions. A big reason why Utd were able to launch those long-ball attacks so quickly imo was that Simms was letting those defenders have lots of time on the ball. There might not be a better forward in the league than Richarlison at harrassing and hounding for the ball. DCL is pretty good at it. Gray will never be mistaken for Richy but you can't be as passive as Simms was, he was just kind of jogging around when he didn't have the ball.

With Doucoure out and only two in the middle the fowards had to provide a bit more as the first line of defense I think. With Simms being passive, and Bruno lying deeper, it was all too easy for Utd to be one touch, one pass, and away to the races.

We don't know if he can consistently deliver or not because he hasn't exactly had a consistent run of games to show either way. To me, he plays like he doesn't believe he should be there; he often looks a little lost or out of place. Probably just my imagination.

As you say though, he doesn't appear to have much to offer in other areas of his game at the moment, although I would expect Sean Dyche to hammer that home and let the lad know he needs to pressure opposition players etc. But he's young and has a bit of time to improve all aspects of his game.

Does far more than Gray or Maupay so I'd play him but it would be better bringing off the bench but Dominic Calvert-Lewin is AWOL so needs must
Far more of what exactly ?
The lad looks completely lost out there, wouldn't be Surprised if he came out with Sat Nav for the next game.
And not a chance in hell did he pass any Bleep Test. He's so laid back in his approach, that Davies puts him to shame..

The forgotten man at Everton, watching Sunderland here, its really sly we bought him back only to give him 216 minutes.

He got 1133 minutes at Sunderland and scored 7 in 17, us bring him back could cost them promotion, which isn't our problem, but we should of used him a lot more.

Another crap decision by Bill
