End of Gambling firms as shirt sponsors (26/27)

Exactly mate.

They'll hit their audience and I don't think the Premier League should be getting applause for a self serving/token measure.

If they acknowledge the problem to the extent to remove gambling from a minority of clubs shirts in the league, then why stop there?

Why not ban gambling money at clubs entirely and at broadcasting?

It's not though.

This is just removing it from shirts - 8 currently have gambling on shirts;
  • Bournemouth
  • Brentford
  • Everton
  • Fulham
  • Leeds
  • Newcastle
  • Southampton
  • West Ham
It'll still be impossible to follow/watch football and not be inundated with gambling messages.

Clubs will still have gambling partners etc, and you'll see gambling messages around stadiums both in person and TV. You'll still get hammered with gambling adverts in-between the pizza adverts for every televised match.

None of the "big 6" affected, you'll notice.

I would imagine that betting companies would have paid a pretty penny for shirt sponsoring a Sky six club, the fact they haven’t for me shows there was more choice for those clubs but they decided against it as they knew the ban would come in…whereas other clubs just went after the most money……morals costs money. I wonder if they place a ban on betting company stadium naming rights

Of course not as they are only pounding it into your head about 30 times per match or whenever you turn on SSN, that is completely different from a static logo on 8 crap clubs shirt which has scientifically been proven to make you go out and bet £50k every time you see one.
I think it's an absolute disgrace that Sky News actually talk about betting odds for matches, when they've got their own betting service.

Only if we look like getting one Pete...

It's a token gesture isn't it?

And as you say - a move which inevitably aids more clubs than others.

First they came for our Ground Sponsor
And I did not speak out
As I was not an Oligarch.

Then they came for our Shirt Sponsor
And I did not speak out
As I did not gamble.

Then they came for our Prem Existence
And there was no one left
To speak up for the club……..

They probably have a sponsor on their sleeve worth more than the front of our shirt.

As others have said they need to remove it from everywhere else.

Token gesture when there will be hoardings flashing betting firms adverts at the ground and loads of ads on at half time on the tv.

Which we never got into bed with them anyway, but beggars can’t be choosers when you have our world class CEO and the rest of the board of directors doing our sponsorship negotiations….

After the shirt sponsor lines you forgot

Then they came for our Starboy
And I did not speak out
As he was $hite

Long overdue , they looked at this but backed off years ago. I still hold the view that we should never have gone down this route in the first place. Others differ 🤷‍♂️.
I heard a phrase the other day which seems particularly apt “ …using the Beautiful Game to legitimise an ugly industry” . It was actually used about scam financial firms , but to me it applies here as well.
