End of Gambling firms as shirt sponsors (26/27)

The only problem I have with this is that the dunces on our board did a deal with Stake, knowing this was on the cards

It's not though.

This is just removing it from shirts - 8 currently have gambling on shirts;
  • Bournemouth
  • Brentford
  • Everton
  • Fulham
  • Leeds
  • Newcastle
  • Southampton
  • West Ham
It'll still be impossible to follow/watch football and not be inundated with gambling messages.

Clubs will still have gambling partners etc, and you'll see gambling messages around stadiums both in person and TV. You'll still get hammered with gambling adverts in-between the pizza adverts for every televised match.

Newcastle's is up I think.

Will be replaced by Saudi Swords at £30mill a year

Not a positive development from a financial perspective for us at this time. Presumably puts us in a weaker negotiating position with prospective alternatives also once the Stake deal expires.

Looking at the CL this week, Bayern have Audi as a shirt sleeve sponsor. 'Sky 6' aside, every other PL club would give their arm to have Audi as a main shirt sponsor. The gap between the elite and the also rans is now a yawning one.

If anyone needed proof the league have it in for us....
Fully expecting any investigation into us to conclude Just in time to hand us just enough of a points deduction to see us go down....

First COVID screwed us, then the gvt screwed us over Ukraine...
Now the League charge us over finances then vote to remove one of our main sources of income

They don't.
Yes they do. When I see it, I’ll record an example, but here’s a Sky Sports article with Championships predictions, and a link to Sky Bet.

They do it with the likelihood of a manager being sacked or appointed - ‘bookies says Lampard is 7/2 to be next Everton manager’ etc.

They don't own it. They promote it but don't own it. And Sky Bet sponsor the championship.

In 2015, Sky plc sold an 80 percent stake in the company to CVC Capital Partners for £600 million,[1] with Sky retaining a 20% stake in the company and agreeing to a long-term licence of the Sky brand.[2] In 2018, CVC and Sky (then in the process of being acquired by Comcast) agreed to sell Sky Betting & Gaming to The Stars Group for £3.4 billion, which was then acquired by Flutter Entertainment in 2020.[3] Flutter continues to use the Sky name and logo, which are now owned by Comcast.

Ah okay, sorry. I wonder if Sky, Fox or whoever own a stake in Flutter.

Dry up. Other clubs involved too. Half the league less top 6 clubs who don't need to rely on gambling as a sponsor cos they can attract real deals for proper money. Hardly a conspiracy despite the insistence that there is

Financially it does appear we have a good deal if we really are getting £10 mill p.a. and the total pot for all 8 clubs is £60mill pa .
This ” ban” though doesn’t come in until 26/27 season. It’s not clear to me how long the current contract is for , but it started 22/23 season so very unlikely we’ll be forced to terminate before the natural end of the contract. Any competent Board of course will have found a better sponsor in this time period 😳.

They're still allowing it on sleeves, on the rolling advertising hoardings, on the official websites. No doubt we'll continue to have an official betting partner. Either get rid of it completely or don't bother stupid gestures like this.
