Energy Bills, knock on effect to match going?

I'd imagine there will be less beers before and after matches so businesses that rely on matchday revenue are going to feel it more so than the club I think.

Gonna be crazy expensive for overseas blues as well.

Very good question.

At this moment in time I still have a little bit of disposable income at the end of the month. I used it last month to get tickets to the Forest game but it was £94 for an adult and 2 junior tickets with obstructed views. I was only able to get the tickets with the extra cost of 3 memberships.

I love going the match, I love Goodison and I want to experience the place as much as I can before we move (I’ve been to well over 200 games but that’s not enough ?).

But at nearly £100 for 3 tickets, with an awful view and a poor team to watch, I feel many people will think their money is better off elsewhere. Going the match isn’t gonna be a luxury many can afford, not just in ticket sales but merchandise, food/drink in and around the ground etc. I suspect the season ticket renewal numbers may drop for next year, there may be people who can afford to take that expense on and take over that seat/ticket. The board know all of this, so don’t expect any massive favours from them. I highly doubt we’ll get a price freeze: as someone pointed out “how’s the energy increase going to effect the club’s operating costs?” They’ll be penny pinching from wherever they can.

We could see a few teams hitting administration or the like over the next few years.

Wonder what the cost to the club will be. Those flood lights will be expensive.
I think Premier League clubs should be fine, especially as the cost is generally progressively higher over the season. But i wouldn't be surprised to see lower league games postponed or cancelled due to this.

More than ever its a middle class spectator sport in the stadium. Cup games likely to be an opportunity for people on tighter budgets to attend.

On a national scale, I fear riots won't be far away if the predicted £6,600 cap comes in next year
The cap is now £3600 but my energy company, eON, told me to pay £415 per month. I told them to do one but how does that even compute? There are only 2 of us who live in the house.

I'm on a good salary, on paper I should be OK but at the end of each month, I now have not money left over. Lord knows where the next chunk of an increase will come from. We generally have the house cool at 18degrees, I'm not Sur we could go lower than that without risking damp/health problems. This crisis is affecting everyone, not just the poor/vulnerable. Meanwhile, the Tories are looking after themselves.

I make a 300 mile round trip for every home game on a supporters coach. Travel and money for the day - couplebof pints in the Abbey and a programme - is usually about £40 so as long as it doesn’t go up too much I‘ll continue to come up regularly

Had the same issue with E-On, told em the same, we are luckily in credit after the Summer wont last long but they wanted me to up the DD from 65 to 475 a month!!I said on your bike knobheads how about you invest some of your obscene profits back into peoples pockets, I settled on 85 a month as i know I will have to heat and light the place and will definitely be in debit to them come March but this insanity needs to end before people really kick off and i really believe they will at some point, people are backs to the wall already and it aint ending soon!

I will go as often as I can but 6 hour round trip is the killer on cost, I have considered moving back up North as my job is WFH 100% now but just to watch Everton is not a good enough reason.

I’ve said straight away that I’m going to scale back doing some aways.

It’s just not economically viable, I’m about to become a father, and well, I’ll use Bournemouth as the example…

Twice in four days, approximately a day of your time travelling, over both games, £60 on tickets, £80 on coach, £60-80 on spends, it’s viable, but I just can’t mindlessly spend.

Any London away, you’re talking £80 for the train nowadays, so straight away I’ve got to swap a 2 hour train for a 6 hour coach. I’ve said I’ll choose my games, because it’s be better to be prepared.

It will be a tough time, so if anyone needs any support or anything though, happy to assist where I can. What a grim time to be a UK Citizen.
After Saturday I’m only going to Arsenal and Newcastle before Christmas, travel costs and 17.30 kick-offs make it difficult.
Having said that , I’ll be making a list of places to go but they’ll all be cheaper get to and largely cheaper to get in.

The price cap is quite misleading, especially how the media are portraying it. The £3600 being mentioned isn't the maximum annual cost an energy company can charge a household, the price cap is on the price of each unit (kwH) and the daily standing charge. Therefore the £3600 is based on the average household's likely annual charge, though your actual charge will be higher or lower than that depending on your actual usage.

If you are a 2 person household, your annual charge will likely be lower than £3600, and you are right to tell eON to do one! Many energy companies are pulling this stunt, trying to whack up people's direct debits to unnecessarily high monthly payments, as this way your money will be in their pockets, not yours, and you will just be building up credit on your account.

And at some point those of us on supposedly "middle-class" salaries need to cop ourselves on. Despite my latest aberration at the Hertha ticket office, I have started that process by cancelling my DAZN subscription here in Germany. The chancers announced that they were doubling my monthly subscription from this month (€14.99 to €29.99). For the sheer temerity of their carry-on, I just zapped them once and for all. Will I miss it? I'll live. My experience is that I get to watch little to no casual football since becoming a father. Other priorities take over. It's not like I couldn't afford to pay DAZN's price hike. It's more the principle of it. If they can double it now, why wouldn't they double it again next year? Bandits.

They won't be in business long. At least with Sky, if you cancel (or try to) they often seek to persuade you to stay with "offers" of dubious attraction. DAZN just allow you to cancel online with nary a protest. They'll be bust with that attitude in no time... Got to say, though, it's a joy just to be able to go nuclear and press the Cancel button. I've no problem spending big money on the things I love and things that give me joy. But there does come a time when you question the "joy" of being royally screwed. In that sense, as was pointed out earlier in this thread, football clubs that take their fans for granted and make mugs of them in their transfer dealings and on the pitch might soon find themselves losing some significant gate receipts as the penny drops for people that there is no joy in being a Moshiri Mug. I'm not sure the Everton "experience" offers enough to well-heeled casuals who might otherwise just step in and replace the disgruntled...
Plus I hate how Germans pronounce is "Da-zone". That in itself is reason enough to get rid.

I sometimes look at Everton in these times and wonder if they could do more.

Free Away coaches to get fans to the games / more coaches on from Goodison.

Some kind of refund for season tickets. Some kind of food (not booze) credit in the ground?

"We're not a charity" - Yeah, yeah, I know. But The People's Club are supposed to be for the people aren't they. And although we do a lot for the community through EiTC, you'd think the club would do something to recognise these crazy cost of living increases that are naturally going to hurt the fans and potentially attendances.

A shirt is £60 ffs, who can be affording buying one of those every season? Could we not be the first Premier League club to use a shirt for two seasons and lead the way here?

Going to home matches is my main social outlet now really, in terms of seeing the lads. I'd arguably cut back on other none-essentials to keep the game going but I think more widely it is going to have a huge impact on the businesses in the surrounding area, for example the pubs which are already closing and not reopening. Only saving grace is I imagine the Black Horse is so busy on a match day they can turn the heating off every other weekend during the season.

The loss of trade cos of the World Cup while the prices shoot up will also have a massive impact.
