I honestly liked the South Africa World Cup, England's shitness aside.
Any way my problems with these decisions is only like 10% that I think the world cup's won't be as good. About 20% of it is just bitterness that countries as intolerant and unpleasant as Russia and Qatar keep being bowed to. (I'm biased against the Russinas beucase I know a lot of expats who moved over here and don't speak kindly about the mother country and I'm biased against Qatar because I'm gay and the big muslim countries all hate us.). Another 20% of my annoyance is because Qatar has so little footballing history, (Russia does, to be fair to it.) and this stupid continent rule means the big footballing countries get it far too rarely, imo. And the other 50% is just because England didn't get it and I really really wanted to get to watch world cup games, live. I was already going to start saving up so I could go to as many games as possible.

I really like the way you've almost broke it down into a pie chart, to display where your dismay comes from.
A lot of the Russians I have come across are arrogant bells. However, there are some really sound ones on here and the Brits can rival them in the bell stakes.

Our university is full of Russian intellectuals who came over here to work with our diffraction equipment and they are, to a man, really sound. It's just they tend to say that russia itself is a [Poor language removed] hole.
I feel bad for labelling them like that now. I used to play football with a few Russian lads and they were fantastic if not a little psychotic when drunk.

That's one of the main reasons I like them, to be honest. The Russians drink like the English do. Somberly, violently and as much as they can as quickly as possible.
They're not like the Irish who seem to think you drink to make you happy. They don't do those 'parties', no, they understand that the onyl reason to drink alcohol is so you can't hear your conscience when you glass someones face in.
Good people, man.
The Scots are mostly harmless when drunk. Don't confuse inane, non cohesive sentences as a sign of aggression. It's probably your fellow islander telling you that he loves you, or trying to bum a ciggy.

Most people have forgotten about the England supporters day of shame at Robben Island that besmirched the World Cup in South Africa. People doubted it happened (some thought I was lying I think!) but I was able to track down the report in the end.

I went out the other year with a pack of russians, and only two other scousers. We got thrown out of pretty much every pub we went into. It was ace.
