Again its that continent ideology. South Africa represented Nigeria, Ghana etc as a whole. Qatar represents Iran, Saudi Arabia etc. Its not great in terms of mass spectacle on a football fan wanting traditions but understandable just to penetrate that market. It would eventually happen sooner than later IMO

Which is why people are accusing FIFA of chasing the oil money and the muslim vote and not looking out for those who care about football now. Because that's exactly what they're doing.

I don't really buy the continent ideology anyway. In Africa, yes I can see it, but I'm not sure it works the same in the Middle east.

Football has gone a long way away from caring about people who care about football.

As for the middle east...well, because it hasnt been done yet. Everywhere else pretty much has.

It certainly doesn't, especially when trying relating and emirate like Qatar and countries like Saudi Arabia and Iran. I would guess that most citizens of the latter wouldn't be able to afford to travel to Qatar, even if they could. Hell, I can't.

i'm not annoyed cos england didn't win it, i'm annoyed that FIFA have given it to countries that even their own reports said were high risk. a world cup in holland or spain would be just as worthy as in england. nations where the stadia are full every weekend. that is not russia or qatar.

although some have said in this thread that "south africa pulled it off" it was a dreadful world cup. that's the point. the competition will be worse off for being in these countries. the world cup may be polished and impressive in qatar, but it will be another corporate love-in, where the football is an afterthought. you can't have a global football tournament in forty degree heat, no matter what promises you make regarding air conditioning the stadia. football has come second once again.

i would have thought evertonians would have got this: it's like man city buying their way to glory, this time on an international scale.

I think the hope is that Al Jazeera wil pick it up and you'll get big crowds in the other arabic countries watching the big TV's as Qatar and the other asian nations go on a run to the semis or something.

But, yeah it seems a slim hope to me too.

South Africa was a [Poor language removed] World Cup, [Poor language removed].

I liked it LOADS!!!!

End of an era for England, France and Italy. Start of a new for Germany. Spain capped off their decade of dominating world football.

Then there were the controversy....

Was quality. Better than the last 2 or maybe 3 for me.

...how to spoil a world cup.

I cant believe people defended these ******* idiots.

It took me about eight seconds to get it, you're way ahead of me man.

The South Africa World Cup was ruined for me by mostly, [Poor language removed] matches, annoying vuvuzelas and a [Poor language removed] Jubilani ball that none of the players were clearly comfortable with.
