We’ve tried the patriot thing, now it’s time to try an actual manager.
It’s a shame Pep turned it down.
What does he do after City? He won’t manage another Club in England and he’d refuse the Spanish job on principle. Don’t think he wants to manage in Italy. He loves English football, so the England job would have been the next logical step.
Must be signing another extension at City.

They have tried that too with Capello and Erikson.

In summary, anybody who expects success because “it’s England” is probably in for a lifetime of disappointment.

Southgate has been the best England manager in my lifetime for actually getting somewhere and I’m 56.

Capello had a dreadful squad and Sven was hardly an elite manager. I’m all for trying a foreign manager with an actual track record and also a half decent squad to speak of.

Southgate will show us when he goes into club management how good a manager he is. Will also be interesting to see the tournament draws Tuchel gets in comparison.

I think developing football nations would benefit from foreign influence in their game.

Countries like England should never have a foreign manager imo.

Just the way I think it should be. Potter and Howe are there, Carsely as well, but we're throwing a lot of money on a big name club manager.
I assume that any English appointment would have been a current or former "big name club manager" so I am not quite sure what the argument against that is, especially if you are insistent on an Englishman - That would only leave us with completely untested managers, small-name club managers and former national team managers. My knowledge of the game isn't what it was, but I am finding it hard to come up with a name.

Ultimately, if a rule cannot be reasonably enforced across ALL international football, then it shouldn't exist for any. In a world where Mikel Arteta and Carlo Cudicini could have turned out for England under current rules, I have no beef whatsoever with a foreign manager that the FA deemed a better choice than any of the homegrown alternatives.

I find it incredibly hard to even care about England, and couldnt care less what the game is (Bar if our players play, and then hope they come back ok). And dont know how Club fans support another team, as in effect that is what it is. For me it will only ever be Everton
