England v Australia - THE ASHES

our whole batting line-up is littered with attacking batsman - it's why i didn't want ballance dropped. think he should have been the one we stuck it out with or possibly pushed him to open to try it. we need two openers to set up a good base and let the attacking middle order get the quick runs - don't really need an attacking opener imo.
Ballance had to be dropped, with his foot movement opening the batting would be disastrous i'm afraid, right now in this run of form he isn't making any test runs, I would however make a case for james taylor who can play the situation

consecutive 50's for ballance since he's been dropped. he got 61 in the first test in a testing period. more than what lyth and bell have done this series. i would liked to have seen taylor in for bell as well tbh.

that's what ballance needs though, go back and make some county runs, his technique in test cricket was suffering and getting worse, there is a better chance of bell making test runs than ballance for me at this point in time, though i have been a critic of bells

i'm not going to say it was a bad decision to drop him because it wasn't. I just wish they would have given him a bit more trust given his average and how he's still new to the test environment. his technique is likely to improve quicker by facing test class bowling than going back to county cricket. Every player is going to go through tough times in test cricket, you learn more about them in tough times, i just like to see them grit and come through it the other side rather than them being dropped quickly.

it's more his style which makes me like him in this england team tbh - like i say, bell's style can be replaced easily with a taylor.

these days with all this T20 stuff, not many kids are growing up as a boycott/atherton - this team is severely lacking that sort of rock apart from cook. we miss that trott like figure at 3 and don't believe having a flashy player like bell is the real answer. he's got himself out a lot of times lately through terrible shots.

all opinions though.

yeah I hear you, but I don't think ballance would have come through, i think they have done the best thing for him and he can come again, in a similar fashion to bairstow, when dropped neither looked like they could get a run, and we couldnt drop too many players despite there being a few options. There aren't many other openers so Lyth gets another chance, bells playing his home ground and his technique looked at this point more likely to come back than ballance, plus at his age once he goes out the team thats it really. Ballance on the other looked in worse shape, and I think think decision will have been made with the thought of future investment in the team, Ballance already is getting his confidence back

why's warner mouthing off again? didn't score any runs, team getting battered, a guy who's barely got a run in a year gets a 50 and he's there mouthing off about a stupid dismissal which is his own forte.
