Go and have a look at Rooney's goalscoring record with Heskey in the side, he clearly benefits from playing alongside a player of this style. And that's what Capello is aiming for, he's trying to get the best out of his World class talent.

As I said, the options are limited, bringing a Carlton Cole would just be like for like with less experience. Who else is there of that style? It's about balance, something you'd never understand. Hopefully you grasp it in a few years, football that is.

The Oracle of football has spoken and he makes sense to me.

Do you think though that England have to play with a Heskey type player? I mean does Rooney play with that kind of player at Man U?

????

Hes badly gash, dont even try and convince me otherwise, Crouch would be a far better option, at least he would provide a goal threat.

I agree ten fold. I can't and never will see the point in playing a striker who doesn't score. I don't buy the whole "Rooney playe better with Heskey" bull that people say. Rooney is so good he can play with anyone. Makes me fuming when I see Heskey in an england shirt.

TBH mate it's obvious that Heskey isn't a striker. He's a forward. Capello hasn't taken him because of his natural ability to score goals.

IF the US playes Clark or Adu with Bradley in mid the US will get stomped. Torres has to be in there to give the US flow. I suspect this lineup Could give the US a chance for a Draw or a win if they get a lead and can counter. If England gets a lead the US are out of it.

---------------Howard---------------
Dolo, Gooch, De Merit , Boca
Donovan , Torres, Bradley , Dempsey
----Altidore , Findley/ Buddle

I think what Heskey gives you is an option ( and i'm being serious ) what that threat is, i don't know? he is strong, and direct, the more defensive frail teams will struggle with his kick and rush type attack

I don't actually, I think England should pack the midfield and play Gerrard off Rooney, especially against the better sides. Heskey is still a useful option to have though, and he's proven, which can't be said of Carlton Cole.

Agreed really, its not like any decent English Managers are knocking around.

The Americans are all finding this bit funny, because we were mostly screaming for USSF to bring in a foreign coach to class up the joint after Arena. The bitching about Bradley - despite his accomplishments, which have been substantial - has been continuous and bitter.

The US backline has looked like Shiite... but they have yet to play a game with all the starters for their first game in a warm up game. This concerns me.

There is alot more to forward play than goals, there's a reason very few teams play with strikers like Defoe and Darrent Bent as a partnership. Good goalscorers, yes, but what else do they bring to the table other than direct running in behind opposition defences? They don't come short, they can't play with there back to goal and they give the team a target to hit.

Heskey is basically the best of a bad bunch. He's far from excellent or great but he's big, strong and decent in the air. It's not just about Rooney, he gives his team a target to hit and England will need that, they don't have the natural footballing ability of the top teams.

I'm not really having that. Heskey is [Poor language removed] and that's pretty much that. If I was fabio I'd have used rooney up front with cole or gerrard just behind. But it's too late for that now.
You're right, we don't have the footballing ability of he spains or the Brazils, but we have enough to beat USA I hope!!

Having a big man up there just tempts the long ball...which is useless at international level.

I think this also. Gerrard is far more effective in front of goal, and would do well with Rooney - but there's a reason why me and you are not England manager. Although my mate once applied for the job when Venables got sacked - he got a rejection letter from the FA and framed it.

I said Crouch, so stop saying Cant Control as the only other option.
