If I thought the U.S. were hopeless at football and that hanging on for a draw in a game they didn't turn up in was all they could hope for, then I'd pat you on the back for that performance. But, while that was a good result for you, you didn't play well at all and you're capable of doing a lot better.

The reason why us English fans are so depressed is that we managed to throw away a game we really should have won. And the reason we should have won is that, as bad as we played, you were worse.

I mean fair play for the point but the fact that you're happy with that performance and don't demand more is more damning that any insult I could say.

Funny as that was exactly what I was thinking after the match except that England woefully underperformed and the USA threw away a golden opportunity for all three points.

1) NHRevs nailed it on the goal. Everyone will point to Rico (USA supporters version of Tony Hibbert in terms of scapegoating) yet Gooch was the one who felt it necessary to vacate the space that Gerrard ran into. I'd give both Rico and Gooch a share of the blame.

2) Cherundolo was my MoM for the USA.

3) The minute Carragher entered the game, it was ours to win and we almost pulled it off if not for Green's miracle save (the one which will almost surely be overlooked by the English press)

4) We had a lot of good combination play except for the end product or final pass which was too long or underhit. Nerves? I don't know but a lot of it was poor.

5) Rooney = non-existent for the first 75 minutes. Seriously. Was he even out there?

6) For all the hype about how the English wingers, namely Lennon, were going to skin the American defense, well we really never saw that did we?

7) Couldn't believe Green was starting the match. Couldn't believe Crouch was not. Couldn't believe Findley started over Buddle.

All in all, a fair result but if Green doesn't get a hand to Altidore's shot...

TX, have to disagree it was not a miracle save by Green, it should have been palmed round the corner. If you get a chance to see it again look at Green's hands, not good. In fact we were lucky it did not hit the inside of the post as it would have been a goal.

You are right about Carragher, should not be there let alone play and to think he was preferred over Jags.

Add to that poor finishing by the England players namely Heskey again not a fave of mine, I could not understand why Crouch was not played from the off.

Rob Green's "miracle save" was not a miracle save. A better keeper would have done a much more comfortable job saving it. It nearly went into the goal after he got his hands on it.

He's simply not a very good goalkeeper and I can't see why he's started when there are two better keepers than him in the side. England were a much better team than us and unfortunate to not win - and that's without playing particularly well. This could be the English in me being biased, though. But I really don't think it is. I think the US played a decent game and so did England, but England were better and really should have scored more and had it not been for a terrible mistake from a goalkeeper who doesn't belong in the side they'd have the three points.

For the US, it was a good result. Getting a draw against the side who were favourites and not looking too bad. England remains the strongest side in the group and I expect them to get out of it and I think we'll be better than Algeria and Slovakia and I hope we'll be joining them in the knockout stages.
