Im sure both Spain and Brazil fans thought they'd win 4-0 too... I don't care if it was the confedrations cup

(Brazil apparently didn't either, given the way they celebrated after the game).

I laugh when people say "it was the confed cup, didn't mean [Poor language removed]". I say to them, Did Spain not care about their 45 game win streak or whatever the fuk it was.. I'm sure Egypt, Spain and Brazil all underestimated the US and Brazil was the only team to realize it at halftime.

I'm not stupid, I know England have more quality than us, but it's a team game, and it will come down to that.. Which TEAM plays better..

p.s. The pressure is on England, not the USA

Yea right.. USA will be down to 8 men by halftime

You never know..just reading the Times and according to them the Brazilian ref that we will have in the Eng-USA game was suspended by the Brazilian FA last season.....amid accusations of being "unambiguously inconsistent, unfair and inequitable"

:/

Good god. Make that 12-0 to USA...match then abandoned cos he's sent off too many england players...whilst smiling.

We laugh now....

" A year earlier Flamengo, the Brazilian club, sent a DVD to Fifa, football's governing body, to urge it to drop Simon ( the ref) from its list of World Cup referees "for the sake of good order and for the good of the game" "

From the Times :/ hmmm should be an interesting match to say the least then.

There he is, ******* fat boy slim. Was behind him at the Deli counter in Asda Bromborough the other day - he's just everywhere - cow [Poor language removed] in a field.

Loving this thread. Super work Mr of Dixie.

The England thing with a lot of scousers is one of those things. For me it's down to having a mostly Irish family, I was never told not to support England but I was just around the general apathy - the national anthem, Queens speech etc always got turned off in my family's house. Then you watch the England fans behaving like bells and want nothing to do with it, or how you speak with those southern types who make your toes curl with their English teddishness and complete ignorance of north of Watford. And to increase it further, the media. What bells, same thing every World Cup - England are knocked, England are built up, England are going to win in, England are [Poor language removed] and it's someone's fault.

Oh, and the history of Everton players with England. Not good.

Add to that, loads of mates who feel the same, we just don't feel English or identify with it. Throw in a Scottish other half and with that the [Poor language removed] that they come out with, some of it true: when a Scottish sportsperson does well they're British, when they do [Poor language removed] they are Scottish.

You going to support Gerrard scoring a winner from thirty yards? Or Cole, or Terry, or any of the assembled massive bells?

I despise the English national team, it's just how it is. I support whoever they play. If a national team were the kopites of the international world it would be England.

In short: Get the [Poor language removed] into them US of A.

Spot on. Agree with every single part of this.

Same cloth i reckon kid.

I understand where you are coming from mate and I think it's what's making this thread a good read.
I'm almost the exact opposite to you. I was bought up watching England with my Dad (Italia 90 is what got me hooked on football) and as my dad is an Ipswich fan we don't share too much in common in terms of our clubs so England it is. Just as it is with cricket, Baseball, tiddly winks...you name it.
I'm sort of split on the cheering for Gerrard if he scores. I despise the man, but somehow it feels different. I can't quntify why it is different it just is.
You're dead right with your Everton players playing for England...not the best record!!
I do feel English...I am English so will support them no matter what. Think i just keep my club and national teams seperate.
Most countries have football fans who ruin it for everyone else, just England's always get the bad press as a number of them are total idiots...but not all of them.
As for the geographical thing. I'm a northerner who moved south. What does that make me then?

And fair enough mate, wish I could excited about a national team to be honest. I envy the Scots and Welsh for it, it's quite super.

I done a generalisation of the southern types, which wasn't quite fair.

But for the other nationalities behaving badly thing, no doubt all nationalities have bells but not one other nationality displays the extreme tittishness of England fans overseas, and I'm not talking them zany hoolies but the general public.

I've done over a decade of research in this mate, and confirm it true.

That's what I do. Before Landon came here I always disliked him when he played for LA (because of his attitude). But when he played for the national team he played with a better attitude so I liked him. I don't know how I did it but I did.

Well basically mate, your letting others ruin it for you.

I hate the Southerners, but that's only half the country. I'm not a royalist, so the national anthem doesn't ring true for me. I take my roots deeper than the last 34 years, I support England in all sports, and Britain when it it's the Olympics.

Thing is I don't let others spoil it for me, when I watch the football it's not about Gerrard scoring, or Rooney, it's about England scoring and being part of something that the majority of the country all come together for.

If you don't want to be part of it due to quite trivial reasons then that is up to you.
