Loving this thread. Super work Mr of Dixie.
The England thing with a lot of scousers is one of those things. For me it's down to having a mostly Irish family, I was never told not to support England but I was just around the general apathy - the national anthem, Queens speech etc always got turned off in my family's house. Then you watch the England fans behaving like bells and want nothing to do with it, or how you speak with those southern types who make your toes curl with their English teddishness and complete ignorance of north of Watford. And to increase it further, the media. What bells, same thing every World Cup - England are knocked, England are built up, England are going to win in, England are [Poor language removed] and it's someone's fault.
Oh, and the history of Everton players with England. Not good.
Add to that, loads of mates who feel the same, we just don't feel English or identify with it. Throw in a Scottish other half and with that the [Poor language removed] that they come out with, some of it true: when a Scottish sportsperson does well they're British, when they do [Poor language removed] they are Scottish.
You going to support Gerrard scoring a winner from thirty yards? Or Cole, or Terry, or any of the assembled massive bells?
I despise the English national team, it's just how it is. I support whoever they play. If a national team were the kopites of the international world it would be England.
In short: Get the [Poor language removed] into them US of A.
