Euro 2021 in England...

I’m looking forward to it. Only one major football tournament has been hosted in this country in my lifetime and that feels ages ago. We have the best stadia in Europe, we always get snubbed in hosting bids for tournaments, it’s been long overdue so I hope we get it. It just does not work having it in multiple counties and it just does not feel as exciting at the same time.

That was the message anyway considering it was gonna be held all over Europe anyway, it may well be restricted to domestic fans anyway but we’re talking 3/4 months away before we get round that
It's a nonsense. Completely unwarranted in these time.

I am not arsed either way, but if football is being played around the continent as it is, and UEFA looking at one country that has the football infrastructure in place for a short notice venue, England/UK makes sense.

Lets face it, its cash they want.

I'm not gonna get into the fans argument, because it's neither here nor there until closer to the time.

But as far as simply staging the tournament goes, with or without fans, the UK (or even just England) is the most sensible solution.

More than enough high-quality training facilities (lots of them with on-site accommodation), and the infrastructure in terms of stadiums.

How many stadiums are normally picked for these tournaments?

Wembley, Old Trafford, The Etihad, The Emirates, Spurs Stadium, London Stadium all huge and new(/modern in Old Trafford’s case) with no obstructed views. Then you’ve got Anfield, Villa Park, St James’ Park, The Stadium of Light etc. I can’t think of any other country with stadiums like that in fairness.

I assume St Mary’s, Molineux, Brighton’s Stadium (AmEx?) would be used for your Finland vs Denmarks in the group stage.

There was 12 host cities planned initially, so at least 12 grounds. They may increase it to 14.

I believe the ones The Athletic suggested (I posted the vid on page 2) were...

Old Trafford (Mcr)
Etihad (Mcr)
Mount Doom (Liverpool)
St James' (Newcastle)
Stadium of Light (Sunderland)
Hampden Park (Glasgow)
Wembley (already due to host the semis and finals) - (London)
Spurs' Stadium (London)
Emirates (London)
AMEX (Brighton)
Principality (Wales)
Villa Park (B'ham)

Yep. Fans, Yay or Nay is an irrelevance.

Ashton Gate in Bristol is better than the AMEX.

It doesn't make sense to me. A county with the biggest per capita fatality rate form Covid19 should not be hosting anything as festive as a football event.

Yeah, they mentioned the new Ashton Gate. It was mainly done due to Bristol's vicinity to Cardiff I believe. It was just the idea. Obviously no guarantee that'd be the actual plan!

Elland Road won't be used as Leeds need to relay the pitch (again) – you might look at the City Ground in Nottingham as a potential. Can't see them using Hillsbrough.

There's also the location of the training grounds to think about, too.

It's also the country with the most vaccinations and, at the moment, the only one in Europe with a general plan to get out of lockdown. That's not to say the UK is 'doing better' - it's just, from a logistics perspective, the decision has to be made soon.

The games being hosted here just isn't an issue, whatsoever, in fact it's the most sensible solution because the UK has the infrastructure to safely house the teams.

The issue of fans right now is totally separate to just hosting the games.

I dont really think that is the issue. Like I said, we have played hundreds of domestic games with zero issues. As have every league in Europe.

But we have by a mile the best grounds in terms of facilities and numbers to host it, short term.

From a purely selfish (Everton) reason, I would not have any international football till next year, but thats not gonna happen.
