Euro2020 Knock Out Rounds

You are right they didn't but at the same time when a team is fairly one dimensional and only has a couple of focal points you can plan and deal with the pace specifically. When you have multiple threats besides - KDB/Hazard you can't afford to.

Are Phillips/Mount going to be able to do the same thing to distract and pull away defenders? Find out in next weeks' exciting installment of England at the Euros.
I agree

Was just responding to the point that Italy defence wasn't effected by pace. Struggled against some of the Spanish young quick strikers too.

As regards Mount, I think he's one of the English players that have disappointed so far. He hasn't been poor but you know he's capable of better. It won't happen but I'd like to see Grealish start in his place on Sunday. It takes away a bit of defensive cover but we'd still have the 2 sitting in front of the defence.

The Final could go either way, both teams made hardish work of their Semis, but there are usually no easy ones.
England seem to be better all around than the usual serial failures
I'm not sure though that Italy are the Italy of Baggio etc but they're still one of the best technical teams in the world and in the past England...unless the opposition is not up for it, used to struggle againd top class technical teams

So it's an 'On the day' thing, a mistake or a one off piece of brilliance - or on too the dreaded pennos.

Made up England really am ,.but got pissed off last night , I live in orrell Park yes scouser, but a the back of ours loads must of been watching the game, once we one they cheered and sung you never walk alone ,ffs closed windows and went to bed

Then we'll never really know how good or bad this England team were in this tournamant on that metric, will we?

Very often the best footballing teams don't win knock out competitions even part ones, hence the popularity and why Greece and Denmark have won this cup previously. As for this format not our (England) issue, personally believe its an horrendous idea, and has been designed by UEFA sponsors and invested partners to exploit monies out of those who can happily or stupidly be exploited.

Was not good to see this, no choice but to be punished... Although I cant suggest on replays their keeper actually noticed the laser on his face...

The fireworks don't care myself just a bit of high jinxs.

Does anyone require that to use those words?

You'd certainly get a bit more of a slap showing contempt for any of those "demographics" ouside of the partisan comfort blanket that you and a few other utter cowards leverage in here on a regular basis.

Then again, you are here to drive forum traffic/activity, either by design or happenstance, so you're just carrying out your role ;)

The one where Shaw wrestled the Dane to the ground with his arms around him?

That was a foul...funnily enough.

Amazing you compare that with the dive of Sterling.
I'd actually agree with that Dave.

The issue I have is that it's happened at set pieces all the way through the tournament, by all teams, both defensively and offensively. Let's face it, holding at set pieces has been deemed part and parcel of the game. I've seen the defending team get an occasional free kick, but this is the first one I've seen given to the attacking team and it came in the 50th game of the tournament.

Where is the consistency? That's what we want isn't it?

Of course you call it out as a legitimate foul as you wanted England to lose. But I guarantee if it had been England who had scored a free kick from the same type of decision, you'd have been making exactly the same point I am.

While there's so much comment on last night's fortuitous pen award and general condemnation re diving, there's been little said about the huge role the premier league referees themselves have played in encouraging diving.

Our referees routinely severely punish anyone who tries to stay on their feet rather than go down when a legitimate penalty should be given. It's as if they're screaming and shouting to everyone, 'if you don't go down then there's no way it's a pen'. In such an environment it's hardly surprising if diving to con a ref becomes commonplace. If ref's were far less harsh in punishing those who stay on their feet it would go a long way in justifying a harsh punishment for perennial divers.
