Euro2020 Knock Out Rounds

No it doesnt.

There are no poor sides in the Euros. Plenty in a WC. You gleefully pointed out that England had only beaten minows to get a SF last time.

The plaudits of being World Champions? Yeah, that means more than winning the Euros, but the quality, a few countries aside, is way stronger.

Sorry Roydo but completely disagree. Even the "worst" teams in WC 2018 would have at the very least been on a par with the likes of Finland, Hungary, Scotland and Macedonia from Euro 2021.

It's arrogance to suggest that European football is that vastly superior to the game worldwide. That said, the football quality in this tournament has been very good, much better than Euro 2016.

Panama were in the last World Cup, I think even Scotland would manage a fairly routine 2-0 against them. North Korea qualified for it once too. There’s deffo never been a team that bad at the Euros.
I'd never back Scotland to routinely beat anyone (and I'm half Scottish).

I didnt say that European football is vastly superior. I said its, as a collective, the strongest confederation on the planet. So to win their competition is as hard as winning the WC, even though the plaudits are less.

I cant speak for Macedonia, but Scotland, Finland and Hungary all have players playing at top European club sides. The gap has closed, without a shadow of a doubt, with probably only Asia still to deliver top players to the European leagues in numbers, but if you constructed a squad of African players in Europe, as a team, they would be hugely competitive. But would come for probably a dozen countries.

I agree that Europe is the strongest confederation in the world, slightly ahead of South America. But you said there are no poor teams at the Euros. I think at the very least Macedonia are exhibit A that that statement is rubbish. WC 2018 Panama would have given them a good game.

Thing is, unfancied teams from Asia / Africa sometimes just need a chance to prove their worth against top-tier teams that ordinarily they wouldn't play that often, or at all. Examples being Cameroon '90, Senegal and Korea Rep. in '02.

Ok. There are fewer. And any that qualify have qualified against other teams in what you admit is the strongest confederation on the plant.

Didnt Macedonia (North) beat Germany in qualifying?

Haha. If we're going to quote one-off games there is hundreds of examples. Iceland beat England in Euro 2016 but I'm not going to suggest Iceland deserve to be in the Euros this time around instead of England, we know England are clearly overall the better footballing side. Its much easier to qualify for the Euros in the current 24-team format, obviously.

I feel sorry for people who hate the England team.

Potentially a national celebration and party missed and sneered at.

In years to come when people reminice there will be more than a touch of regret perhaps too embarrassing and painful to admit, that when the nation was enjoying themselves they spent their time in misery because they were too cool and edgy to support their country.

Basically my point is, qualifying for the Euros for a gash European side is clearly easier (24 slots) than qualifying for a WC (14 slots is it?)

But the overall quality is higher.

You said it yourself. UEFA is the strongest confederation. So less quack teams to play.

But anyrate, Super Vet "Puppy Special" has started, so off there now to make sure Mrs R doesnt buy one ffs.

Nite. Xx

I bet 90% of them have got hipster beards.

I didn't say there wasn't poor World Cup teams. Just the old addage of the Euros being a harder thing to win as there are better teams involved isn't quite as accurate as it used to be.

North Korea were boss in 1966!

As for Scotland beating Panama... eh, maybe.

Zaire in 74 and El Salvador in 82 take some beating in terms of poor sides.
didnt saudi arabia get beat 10-0 or something at a world cup as well by germany
