Euro2020 Knock Out Rounds

Rooney was so gullible to think Ronaldo wouldn't protest. As he went off you could see he was more concerned with the fact that friendship/trust had been broken, more than he let his team down by standing on someone.
Same as when Neal Taylor broke Coleman's leg and Ashley Williams went on the defensive rather than show concern for his clubmate

If you watch the slow-mo, as the photos show he was clipped from one player and checked from another which may well have sent him flying at that pace. All these guys will obviously make the most of such things but the Danes shouldn't have taken the risk in the penalty area. I think they were making these sly little digs and nudges, to be honest, because they expected to get away with it but these days you can't make contact with the attacker in the box or he will go down.

At the end of the day the ref was right next to it, and either he was corrupt and lying (or some say balancing out the Kane decision) or he must have thought it was a penalty. I don't think anyone can claim it was a biased performance from him as we had a lot of soft and inexplicable decisions against us too, one which led to a goal.

And as if the Danes didn't dive themselves to win setpieces or commit tactical fouls or attempt to disrupt the game to drag it to penalties! They were playing a cynical game and employing the dark arts themselves and I don't feel any sympathy for them especially after all this moral indignation on their part.

I agree completely. I was going for sarcasm but it’s hard to get across in text. Clear contact from the first player which pushes him towards the second player who also makes contact

It's wild how people will go on and on about how it is a contact sport over some incidents and then the next day come back and defend a dive because of a slight bit of contact when the player diving is one of the best athletes in the world when it comes to balance if he wants to be.

Not directing this at you personally btw, just something I've noticed. But you're speaking to it. That contact isn't enough to knock him over. So is it a contact sport or not? Is brushing against someone a foul every time or no? I think football really should think about deciding on this. Otherwise we're just doomed to more diving and more play acting.

Obviously I can't speak for anybody else, but just because I don't support England, doesn't mean I supported Ukraine, or will support Italy. All of these teams have a number of odious, racist fans, just like England (and every other country) does.

I'll watch and enjoy the game, and if England win I'll be happy for the likes of Pickford, DCL (if he even makes the bench) and some of the other young talents, but the idea of Johnson et al trying to take credit or bask in the team's glory will knock me sick. If Italy win I'll be largely indifferent.

But the sooper Ingerlund fans on here claiming anyone not supporting their country is a Marxist, an anti-Semite or a self loathing hipster should give their heads a wobble.

I thought those not supporting England were the ones who were doing so on political grounds as some kind of protest against the racist fans?

I still haven't heard any plausible reasons for why any English person who likes football would not support his own country!

I think it's just become so fashionable to hate on England that some English people have chosen to go along for reasons that have nothing really to do with football but all-encompassing negativity.

They grasp for flimsy or vague political rationalizations to justify their stance but it's such a miserable and downright illogical stance to take and hurts nobody but themselves.

Don't you think it's sad that with our first final in a major tournament for 55 years instead of enjoying the moment they are choosing to wallow in well what is it exactly? A kind of spiteful self-hatred?

What do they do when these games are being played and everyone around them is celebrating?

Sulk in the corner muttering to themselves?
