I know this.

He is playing games with the people. "Look how nice I am giving you all a day off, well maybe, I will flip flop over it until it is too late to do anything about it. Its the thought that counts though right?"Opium of the masses stuff.

I mean I’m sure we’d all love a Monday off work regardless of what time it was announced.

He will give people a day off so people like him. Of course it would be political.

Everything is political in some form or other.

I think you’re assuming too much about the general population though. Giving me a day off doesn’t make me like someone. I get the day off whether I like or hate them. People that drag politics into everything should be on registers.

Anyone else looking forward to the 3rd place playoff tomorrow? It’s nice to have it in Budapest. Just hope that the players aren’t too knackered to entertain the fans.

Or people can just ignore the politics when it benefits them. Its pretty much how things work.

It won't happen anyway. Wishy washy Boris crap as per usual.

Technically I could support England, I have lived here my entire life and on the surface am as English as rolling green fields, cricket on villages greens and institutional racism.

I don't support any nation when it comes to football though, my heritage choices are Scotland and the US Virgin Islands so no thanks. There is a simple reason for that too, when it comes to World Cups and Euros etc I just want to sit back and enjoy the football without having it ruined by the team I support letting me down. I do enough of that in normal football. I did the same with women's football and chose to not support anyone as such and just enjoy it for what it is. I still prefer certain teams to beat others in games but it doesn't bother me either.

Its slightly different with club football, you tend to chose to support the team who is near you or who family members/friends support. I feel the scouse thing and being an Everton fan, I don't "feel" England. It's not just football either, any sport, I don't support a team or sportsperson based on where they are from as that would be very limiting.

Is the right answer :)

Seriously though it is the right answer, you have put your reasons eloquently and, I for one, fully understand the reasons of what is in effect 'apathy'. Watching the game on Wednesday, I wish I could have just enjoyed it like a neutral but I was invested, however it was all worth it in the end.

Have you seen some of the posts on here. Believe me there is a hatred and the reasoning behind it is ridiculously tenuous and can easily be applied to their active support of other nations and even Everton. This is what people are responding to, I don't want to speak for other people but I certainly hope that most, if not all, of the people posting in a positive manner towards England understand your reasons for not 'feeling' it with the national side.

Basically my point is, qualifying for the Euros for a gash European side is clearly easier (24 slots) than qualifying for a WC (14 slots is it?)
But those 24 slots they'll be competing against the best of Europe to qualify. Whereas for the 14 slots for the WC, they'll be competing against teams in their own (weaker) confedrations.

That is ireland against England mate. Show me one video of Ireland booing any other song. Its completely acceptable against England all things considered.
Almost everyone boos England though.

I hate booing of National Anthems though and in no way condone it. But those that criticise England fans for booing, but say it's OK for others to boo our anthem are just hypocrites.

I just don’t really understand why you’re bringing politics into it? Can’t you just watch it for what it is: a football match.
Eh? I've clearly said a number of times that I DO watch the game and enjoy it, just like I watch the Champions League final, I watch without supporting any team. Not sure why that's a problem for some.
