Euro2020 Knock Out Rounds

Better team won. Ultimately only managing 6 shots and 2 on target over 120 mins in a home final is disappointing.

Penalty misses happen, just feel sorry that it's 3 young players. Saka especially. He didn't deserve that, but no way he should have been the one stepping up to take that fifth pen. No way at all.
Not many good penalty takers in our ranks unfortunately.

I think people overrate our attacking players. Southgate played a safety first system because that's how Portugal won the Euros and how most successful International teams play. Playing in this conservative manner has got England to a World Cup semi final and a Euros final. I doubt he'll abandon it now. Meanwhile France and Belgium, who both have far superior players to England, play in a very similar manner. So if you level the accusation at Southgate, you also have to criticise Deschamps and Martinez even more for not "releasing the handbrake". Personally I'd play 1 DMC and play Foden in a creative role in the middle, but it's hard to criticise Southgate based on results.
Would you say Mancini too went safe way mate? At some point they had like %70 of possession.

FWIW, I hate the way Deschamps sets France up - he's massively lucked in. Same with Santos and Portugal.

I don't mind the way England played, but there's definitely talent there to be tapped into. Hopefully the 2022 WC, that can happen with a bit more regularity. Because as we've seen with France and Portugal, the luck-in way of playing doesn't work in a sustainable manner.

Spain won three titles on the trot because they played a brand of attacking - albeit in a different way - football. Germany went close at 2010 and then won in 2014 playing a similar, attacking way. It can be done.

It's about timing within the list really.

Kane shouldn't be taking the first pen. Sterling, Grealish should be up before Saka. Even Stones, Shaw. They're more experienced. Henderson - as much as he's a tit and missed the one in the warm up - probably should stay on to take one.

Experience key in those moments. Bonucci isn't a penalty taker, for example, but put it away, same with Maguire.

And Kane should have been on 3rd/4th pen.
