He and the coaching staff should all be absolutely ashamed of themselves for putting that lad in that position, or for allowing the player to put himself in it. He's 19, the impact on his life could be catastrophic and they should have known that. You intervene and stop it from happening unless it's forced (had the pens gone down the line).

Appalling, can't believe people are letting him off the hook for it.

Also can't quite believe that Luke Shaw - whose confidence must have been sky-high - didn't take a penalty. Stones and Phillips I'd probably put on pens before Saka too. Easy game this to play from the couch, I guess

I agree with all of this, but I also want to know how Grealish or Sterling let the lad go up for them.

Luke Shaw was good overall too.

Kane very weird, bad in group stages then a couple of good games and very mixed in the final

He's no longer an out and out striker but the issue with that is you get him doing what he does - dropping into midfield etc - but if there's no runners beyond him, you're basically a non-entity.

This happened a lot in the group stage, changed in the knockouts (well, only Ukraine and Denmark really) and then was back to that in the final.

There comes a point where Kane doing that becomes a hindrance for this England team. I think we found that today.

It'll only not be a hindrance against lesser teams or if Southgate just plays three players around him who will all charge forward at pace - i.e. Sterling, Rashford, Foden. But that does then leave England very exposed and without a link player - putting all the onus on Kane to be that link player as well, and taking your best finisher out of the area you want him in.

It's a balance but I don't think it can continue that way into the World Cup. He either has to have a partner or he has to get told to stay upfield.

I'd like to thing they would have been happy to take one, but the decision is Southgate's and he's even confirmed he picked the takers and order.

If anyone bottled it and that's why Southgate knew not to pick them, well then that team hasn't got anywhere near the level of character that the media have been telling us they have for months now.
