Euro2020 Knock Out Rounds

I binned most social media because it's an absolute cesspit full of troglodytes but, for reasons unbeknownst even to me I kept LinkedIn. All over it this morning are people inevitably cashing in on everything about last night's game so they can try to sell you something. What winds me up most is the VAST majority of posts I have seen are along the lines of:

"Saka is only 19, Sancho is only 21, Rashford has tried to feed kids...." as if an explanation has to be offered as to WHY you shouldn't racially abuse some lads who have just missed a penalty. Do one. I don't care if they're all in their 40s and all giant racists themselves. Don't be racist because DON'T BE RACIST.

If not calling out the racism you see on the channels you're on is being complicit (and it is) then surely so is this cringey, performative nonsense posted for no other reason than to scav a few likes.

I mean, based on results over the last three years, they are, but look at the squad that got picked for the tournament (and players that were left at home)...

That squad is better than Germany's, Spain's and tbh I'd argue Italy's in terms of depth of talent.

Portugal and France and Belgium probably have superior squads.

But given the semis and final were at home, and they played their group games at home etc, anything less than an SF would have been poor.

Not to say we haven't done very well to get to the final, it's a great achievement, but the talent is definitely there.
They aren't that clearly better than Spain. They've got better attackers but are woefully short in midfield. It's a tight one. I'd take Italy's best XI but England have more depth.

Rice and Phillips was a shocking centre midfield tandem, they wouldn't be no where near the squads of Italy, Germany, France, Spain, Portugal, Holland, Belgium.

They wouldn't get anywhere near the squad of a top contender in the CL in their entire careers, both are so limited and it showed once the 20 mins mark came up after the fake tactical Jorginho injury where they had a mini team talk, the Italians wrestled the game and were on control from them on, was amazing to see just how shocking both Rice and Phillips were, they were both looked heavy legged by the 70 min mark.

Not one of them has 1 minute of CL football under their belt and it showed, worst midfield pairing i have ever seen in my lifetime playing for England, Veratti and Barela were light years ahead of them in technique, passing and controlling the tempo of the match.

Well yeah but you want Kane on as much as possible.

He was dropping deep in the first half but had players running off him and behind. That didn't happen in the second half but England also failed to get on the ball.

Verratti and Jorginho took control. England don't really have any deep-lying midfielders who can do that.
In my opinion. Southgate should have changed it after about 55 mins. Even if just to put fresh legs on. He needed to swith to a back 4 and overload the midfield. It was clear to see that's where they where controlling the game. Control the midfield and the rest will take care of itself. Its the engine room of any good team

Somebody will spend silly money on Rice just watch.

I thought Rice had a decent game last night in normal time. But I've said all tournament that those two as a CM pairing were embarrassingly low quality.

All Mancini did was replace Berella with Cristante to match up Rice and Phillips and the physical as well as tactical battle was over. They really should have won it before pens.
