Europa Conference League

Competing in Europe at that level imo isn’t progress, more than 80% of the teams that will be in it will championship or league 1 level.
I mean we look down upon it yet we can't even finish in the Europa league places ourselves yet we're demanding Europa League or bust.

With me its the inescapable of feeling we haven't had the squads or mental capacity to compete in the PL and Europe.
Its a Catch 22 situation all round. Naturally I crave for a night like the Fiorentina game but not if were languishing in the bottom half of the league.

In case you missed it, Manchester City won the Carabao Cup at Wembley - again - pushing a likely Europa League qualification place one down the Premier League.
Now all we need is Manchester United to win the Europa League and maybe Chelsea to win the FA Cup?

Anyone understands the last bit ?
I thought it was maximum 7 English teams in europe no matter who wins the Europa League or Champions League and with Leichester/Chelsea almost ceertainly finishing in the top 7 the FA Cup/League Cup winner spots now go down to 7th.

I quite like the idea of a less prestigious European competition that is the equivalent of the EFL Trophy. For all the criticisms and sneering at the EFL Trophy every fan whose team gets to the final very much enjoys it....result pending.

But using it as a catch net for clubs dropping out of UEFA's other competitions renders it utterly pointless. But if that means there's a chance UEFA get their wet-dream of 3 European finals featuring line 6 of their preferred clubs then that's how it's gonna be done.

They've took an idea that has some merit and completely ruined it before launch.

Well it is considering we haven’t been in Europe for ages and embarrased ourselves last time out.

It’s like saying “I’m not going to bother getting a car, because all I can afford is a Ford Fiesta”.

As far as I am aware, the only way 7th will not get the European conference spot is if Arsenal win the Europa League. In this scenario, only the top 6 would get into Europe through the league. We don't need United to win it, just for Arsenal not to win it.

I'm not quite sure why the FA cup would have relevance anymore. Chelsea and Leicester are both extremely likely to be top 6 (and probably top 4) in the league, so the FA cup spot will go to the league.

Nothing has changed wityh regards to how league positions are sorted.

top 5 is europe + two cup winners.

If cup winners qualify via league then it goes to 6th + 7th.

So effectively its top 6 now with 6th being europa conference league.

Assuming Chelsea and Leicester finish top 4/5, 7th becomes an UECL place, with 6 becoming the next UEL place.

Basically like every year top 7 is the target.

Mate playing pure diluted Europeon football doesn’t excite me in the slightest.

To be perfectly honest, I have absolutely no idea! But I'm endeavouring to find out
Is what he just said when i said does that mean place goes down to 8th or something [almost thought did he mean 7th would be a europe place and not the conference-league]

Bit mad seeing people making out like we could waltz our way to winning this by playing our kids all the time when we've struggled against the likes of Kharkiv, Zagreb, Liege, Limassol etc in all our recent efforts. Think we may have a slightly inflated view of ourselves on that front.

Currently the qualifiers for this would look likely to include Roma, Villarreal, Borussia Monchengladbach and Marseille from the top leagues, as well as a load of European regulars like Fenerbahce, Lokomotiv Moscow, Cluj etc. It's obviously not the ideal scenario but i'd absolutely take it over nothing. You have to start somewhere.
