Europa Conference League

That’s Fair enough mate it doesn’t excite me at all and all it will do is put a massive hinderance on trying to get where we want to be with the squad we have.

I fancy Arsenal to win the EL anyway mate they are a very good cup side sadly so will need 6th anyway.

Just need to hope Spurs and WHU collapse as RS too jammy to miss out on Europe.

Bit mad seeing people making out like we could waltz our way to winning this by playing our kids all the time when we've struggled against the likes of Kharkiv, Zagreb, Liege, Limassol etc in all our recent efforts. Think we may have a slightly inflated view of ourselves on that front.

Currently the qualifiers for this would look likely to include Roma, Villarreal, Borussia Monchengladbach and Marseille from the top leagues, as well as a load of European regulars like Fenerbahce, Lokomotiv Moscow, Cluj etc. It's obviously not the ideal scenario but i'd absolutely take it over nothing. You have to start somewhere.

It's progress.

Was this season an opportunity to jump the line a bit and sneak CL? Yes.
Is that still possible with 6 games to go? YES.
Is it likely? NO.
Would we have taken this position at the start of the season? YES.
Would we define this as progress? YES.
Would it furtehr the brand across Europe? YES.

Europe attracts a slightly better calibre of player, combine that with us paying good wages, having a world class, well respected manager in football in charge.

I dont know about anyone else, I don't care what competition it's in, I'd be happy to see us palying Roma, Villarreal, BMG, Marseille. He'll i'm happy to see when we get friendlies against these teams. A bit of bad luck with injuries and perhaps a missing piece of the midfield higsaw has hampered us this season, but we've come along way already under CA in my eyes, menality has changed,Spurs, Liverpool, Arsenal away all defeated.

I couldn't care for managers whining about amount of games. Footballers would rather play matches than train. Providing we aren't absolutely dreadful, more Everton games the better for me.

Ideally we'd be going into CL, then EL, but i'd defo take EL2 now as a settlement. I just want us back playing in Europe.

Mentioned previous in another thread that I'm coming to terms with playing in this comp (if we qualify). We've tried and failed to get to an EFL final / FA cup final, as we're usually met by a better team than us. In this comp we'd be the best English team so unlikely to meet a Man City along the route. It's the first year of the comp, what more motivation do you need to be the first name on the cup? It's a starting point on our long road to the top and I don't think it should be sniffed at. Also I think we're more likely to be playing teams from the likes of Scandanavia and central europe, as I imagine the better teams from East Europe will be in the UEFA cup or CL, so fingers crossed no long trips. Getting to finals and winning will hopefully breed more success. Winning this qualifies for the following years UEFA Cup, which hopefully by then we've got a far better squad to help us win that one to qualify for the CL. We've got to set ourselves realistic targets and pathways to the top and unfortunately to the dislike of some this is the start.

I don't get the mentality of "I don't want to play in Europe, because it affects our chances of qualifying for Europe"!!

Nothing has changed wityh regards to how league positions are sorted.

top 5 is europe + two cup winners.

If cup winners qualify via league then it goes to 6th + 7th.

So effectively its top 6 now with 6th being europa conference league.

Assuming Chelsea and Leicester finish top 4/5, 7th becomes an UECL place, with 6 becoming the next UEL place.

Basically like every year top 7 is the target.

Apart from that year under Moyes we finished 6th and Swansea and Wigan won the cups. Everton that.

I'd feel much more optimistic about us qualifying for something via the league (and ending our trophy drought) if they'd just do the decent thing and bring back the Texaco Cup. I quite fancy us to edge it over 2 legs against Brechin.

I don’t think we would waltz our way to winning it by playing our kids, but I think we should definitely play our kids.

I had it in my head that this just meant qualifying rounds for Europa League.

Just reading about it now, it sounds utter bobbins.

It would be lowest priority competition of the season so I would play a young team and then re-assess if we make it to the later stages. Of course we could easily get knocked out playing a second string side, but I still think it would be the right thing to do.
