Just out of curiousity, how would the spots for the champo league be affected if we won it and qualified via that route? Would it just be 1st to 3rd or would 4th still get it?

If we finished out side the top 4, 5 English teams would qualify, if we finished in the top 4, 4 English teams would qualify, the extra place does not pass down to the league. If English sides won both the European Cups but finished outside the top 4, both would qualify but at the expense of the 4th placed team in the league, 5 is the max number of teams from any one country.

dont buy into the whole season ruining thing, its an easy excuse for managers who didn't prepare their squad well enough imo. we havent been in europe for what 7 years? personally i cant wait.

Love this post.

Bobby will embrace this competition if we enter it next season, as will the fans, and the whole thing will be approached with the kind of enthusiasm which will keep the squad fresh.

I think we will have a ruddy good run in the Europa Cup next season.

Winning and competing against the best its what is all about, that's why the game is played. Granted Europa League its kinda second best... But still a pretty good competition against clubs with great history.

Some are worried that we'll go shopping for "quantity over quality" as Roberto said, but in all honesty I just can't see Roberto getting in someone for the sake of it. If he brings someone in, it is because he thinks the player is good enough. For example, we might not go for Fernando but we might go for Colback. Obviously Fernando is a top top DM but that doesn't mean Colback can't come in and do a good job for us. We'll still try to bring back all our Loan players, some on loan again and other on permanent deals, if not we will look for propper replacements and the we'll add 2 or 3 players along with 2 or 3 youth players breaking through.

Playing in the EL means, more players, more games against good competition and a little bit more money. Whats not to like.

I want Everton to win something too... and why not the Europa? OK sounds a bit of a long shot but if we can strengthen well in the summer (big IF, I know) then what's from saying we can't make a decent push for it...

We probably would've won it in 2008 if we'd got past Fiorentina, which we should have after levelling the tie
by half time at Goodison.

Currently 4 is the maximum number of EPL teams permitted in the CL. This changes to 5 with the Europa winner (assuming it's EPL based) now getting entry? Is that correct?

I was reading about this just the other day.

No, if we were to win it and finish outwith the top 4, that top 4 would join us in the CL making it 5 English teams in the CL.

The same will apply to the CL winners from now on.

If they finish outside their own top 4 it won't stop the 4th place team going forward to the CL.

There would be 5 teams from that country going in the CL.

Hope this helps
.

Further to the above, as Bluebud expounded on p17, if both the Europa and CL winning (EPL) teams both finish outside the subsequent season's top 4, they both go into the CL and the 4th placed EPL side drops out

If Everton finish 5th then they're straight into the group stages. If it's 6th, then I think there's one qualifying round.
Depend who wins the FA Cup. FA Cup winners actually get the best EL qualification spot, straight in to the groups. However if the winners are in CL the runners up don't get the best spot, they get the worst - 2 qualifiers.

Presuming Arsenal hold on to fourth:

Arsenal win the Cup
5th groups
6th 1 qualifier
FA Runners up 2 qualifiers

Hull win the Cup
FA Cup winners groups
5th 1 qualifier
6th 2 qualifiers

Here's an update on the finances in the Europa League. 1.3 million euros for the group stages are definitely in our bags but anything more than change comes from the semi-finals onwards.
  • First qualifying round: €120,000
  • Second qualifying round: €130,000
  • Third qualifying round: €140,000
  • Play-off round elimination: €150,000
  • Base fee for group stage: €1,300,000
  • Group match victory: €200,000
  • Group match draw: €100,000
  • Group winners: €400,000
  • Group runners-up: €200,000
  • Round of 32: €200,000
  • Round of 16: €350,000
  • Quarter-finals: €450,000
  • Semi-finals: €1,000,000
  • Losing finalist: €2,500,000
  • Winners: €5,000,000
